A film like this is screaming out for a good casting director. This year has seen very good examples of a near perfect casting. For example Chittagong, Gangs of Wasseypur, English Vinglish, Kahaani, Love Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana, Paan Singh Tomar and Vicky Donor.
Adapted from Shakespeare's play A Midsummer Night's Dream 10 ML is about one wedding and three love stories. Neil (Purab Kohli) is about to get married to his childhood sweetheart Shweta (Tara Sharma) who is in love with a garage mechanic Peter (Neil Bhoopalam) .Mini (Koel Purie) is Neil's best buddy cum fuck buddy who is in love with him. Add a dash of a Ram Leela mandali group led by Brijendra Kala and Manu Rishi and Ghalib (Rajat Kapoor) and his beautiful wife Roshni (Tisca Chopra). How thes lives get entangled with each other on one mad night thanks to a love potion called Josh -e -Jawaani is what this film is about.
The film is light, flows easily and has some really nice moments and doesn't give you a headache when it ends but leaves you in a good mood. The portion involving the ram leela mandali entertained me the most. The only area where this film fails to rise above its script is the casting. Except Brajendra Kala and Manu Rishi none of the actors are able to bring out the humour in the film. Every actor makes a caricature of his character except Tisca Chopra. At times it felt like they were acting in a play.
Director Sharat Kataria who has written the hilarious dialogues for Bheja Fry makes a respectable debut but is not able to extract the best out of his actors. I hope next time he sharpens his skill in the casting department.
Final few words - 10 ML love is perfect for home viewing. Wish it had that 'ensemble cast' wala vibe to make it worth a theatre watch.
