Every so often there comes along a film that is so harebrained in concept that you doubt the intellect of the people involved in the project. A Good Old Fashioned Orgy is exactly one of those films that feels like some studio guy said "hey lets do this" and found many more idiots to go along with the plan. In fact even the premise of the film is just that; "let's do this".
Thirty something friends from high school are about to lose their party pad when the father of one of them decides to sell it. Heartbroken and sad, they decide to go out with one last banging party and hence the birth of the orgy. Now what would possess these men-children to actually agree on something so inane is beyond my desi sesibility but to be able to find more partners in crime is just plain travesty on celluloid.
The film is not funny and least of all fun. The jokes fall flat and a heavy dosage of cuts from the Indian censor board makes it a pain to watch. Many pranks feel like lost opportunities and the laughs just decrease at an increasing rate.
American Pie defined a whole generation of sex comedies but rarely do its successors match up to the benchmark set by this iconic film. A Good Old Fashioned Orgy joins this list of duds. But hey if you really want a brain freeze this weekend, do venture out for this one. You never know when inspiration might strike. 2 starsview less
