Ajab Gazabb Love

When I saw the trailers of AGL, I quite liked the idea conceptually of a girl who wants a poor guy & a rich daddy's son trying play the part. This south remake that hits screens today falls in the bracket of nonsensical, madcap entertainers.

\r"Alas, this is far from a breezy fun movie and is just plain simple boring with a few laughs here & there.

\r"Rajveer Grewal(Jacky B) is a car-loving millionaire who has designed a cool 25 lac rupee supercar. He falls for the cute Madhuri who hates wealthy people. To woo her, he makes his family play out an elaborate plan to convince her of their poverty-stricken fate.
\r"Through this process, Arjun Rampal, her brother(s) steps in to meet the family his dear sister has chosen. Cliche after cliche follow and eventually ofcourse, All iz well.

\r"This movie is a complete Jacky show, which isnt necessarily the best thing. He is decent but the screenplay doesn't quite hold up.
\r"The music is good & Boom Boom Boom with Mika belting out his stuff works.
\r"Some scenes are genuinely funny & I think the Banana scene from the promos is a riot. Darshan Jhariwala & Kirron Kher are stellar.

\r"All in all, its cheesy, random, partly-funny but not worth the effort. With so many more movies out there, I wouldnt suggest you to venture out for AGL.

After the disaster called kidnap in 2008 Sanjay Gadhvi resurfaces with ajab gazabb love. The plot is loosely similar to one of my favorite film called Baat ban jaaye directed by Bharat Rangachary.

Rich guy Jacky Bhagnani falls in love in with a Nidhi Subbaiah who hates rich people. Jacky pretends to be a poor mechanic which leads to his family getting involved and everyone pretending to be poor. There is also Arjun Rampal with a solo credit slate to add to the conflict.

The script appears designed for Jacky Bhagnani after the box office success of Faltu. If Faltu had a bunch of students faking an entire university this one has an entire family faking poverty.

it is bland and boring and the only time I found myself smiling a bit was when Arshad Warsi made a guest appearance.

Thankfully the conflicts in the film appear and get resolved instantly saving us from a lengthy melodrama. Towards the end it even gets into pravachan mode preaching about how the rich should take care of the poor and blah blah blah.

The film smells of laziness and lethargy whether it's the actors, the songs or the direction.

Even though this is Sanjay Gadhvi's sixth film, like kidnap it makes me wonder yet again if this is the same guy who made the two Dhoom's which I found quite entertaining.

Word of mouth - Watch or revisit Baat ban jaaye instead of spending your time and money on this ajab o gareeb love story.

Ticket meter - not worth a theatre visit.

Meant to be a light hearted comedy and thanks entirely to the cast of Darshan Jariwala, Kirron Kher, Arjun Rampal and Arshad Warsi, it sort of gets there.

It certainly helps to have father producing a movie for son - Jackky Bhagnani just needs to apply lots of hair gel, show his six (or was it eight) pack and act like a rich, sweet, pleasant tempered boy. That is more or less his role. Alright ! There IS more..... he actually needs to pursue the girl he falls for by pretending to be poor. Ok, now that's really is it.

Darshan Jariwala and Kirron Kher play his indulgent parents and are persuaded to play the 'we are poor' eyewash. Now this is where the laughs come from. That and from Arshad Warsi's mini guest role.

Arjun Rampal is around for people who tire of Master Bhagnani's six /eight pack but ladies be warned - he is very, very modestly attired. And yet he might have just stolen the show.

(A thought : Arjun Rampal should probably give comedy a shot).

The female lead is played by Nidhi Subbaiah who reminds one of Chitrangada Singh. She looks pleasant and did not go over the top is all that can be said. Her character sketch was not adequate, at times a little unconvincing.

The story : Rich family acts poor to help their son get the girl of his dreams because she hates rich people.

Go only for the laughs that Darshan Jariwala and Kirron Kher provide.

Sanjay Gadhvi banishes the ghost of KIDNAP, keeps the gear to cruise control mode, dropping it a bit from the high octane stunts from the DHOOM series to take you on a laugh-riot. This film is a joy-ride - clean fun with no puns, yet it tickles your funny bone. Who says entertainment always has to border on the obscene, violent and vulgar?

The subject is love and the treatment is hatke. Rajveer (Jackky Bhagnani) is the son of a rich businessman who heads an automobile empire. Rajveer is the automobile designer with an eye on the future. While his mother (Kirron Kher) and sister-in-law want him to get married, Rajveer is too involved in the dynamics of the four-wheeler. One day he chances upon Madhuri (Nidhi Subbaiah) on the escalator of his office. From this moment on, he loses his heart to this mystery girl.

Kirron Kher is outstanding as the mother who has to play a blind lady sewing clothes to make ends meet. Her timing is perfect. Even the cast who play Rajveer's brother, his wife and daughter all ease into their roles of poor souls with glee.

There are bonus performances too which give this film an entirely different hue. There's a double dose from Arjun Rampal as the girl's twin brothers. Marvelous is just one word to describe Arjun. Actually he is just brilliant. Another dynamite who storms the screen is Arshad Warsi. Dhamaal performance.

I went in without expectations but came out thoroughly impressed and entertained.
