Most of us have had instant feels for the Angry Birds when we stumbled upon the game on which this movie is based. The idea of red birds being angry and pigs being evil and both seeking to wash out the other one seemed rather too fascinating; it accounted for an even more dedicated attempt at settling scores. But that’s been a while ago. And now we have the Angry Birds movie when the craze of the game is done and dusted.

The idea of the film is merely to showcase why the Angry Birds are angry; especially, Red. The angriest of all birds, Red is asked to take anger management lessons by his community for being angry and asocial and intolerable in the society. In the meanwhile, the evil green pigs extend a hand of friendship and set out to capture the birds’ village under pretext. Aware of their evil plan, Red chooses to fight back and be the savior hence, making amends with his community.

As noble as the intention sounds, the writing fails at multiple levels to create an impact. It’s all there, but it’s forced. There are colorful birds and evil piggy enemies, but none good enough to watch winning. They’re just there, because the plot says so. Except for red, everyone’s pretty normal and zen-like calm. Too little anger to be angry!

With Hollywood raising the bar each time with an Inside Out and Jungle Book, Angry Birds movie is a little too late to please the audience. It’s just there.

And you’d prefer it better in the game even today!
