No, The boy next door is not a sequel to the highly entertaining ‘Girl Next Door’. What it is, is crap. It’s also extremely predictable. Right from the very beginning, you can tell what’s going to happen next. But predictability isn’t necessarily a bad thing. However, being able to tell that the movie is crap from the very first half is a bad sign. It’s twists would only surprise someone who has never watched a thriller before. There are many coincidences in the film that border on the ridiculous.

Claire (Jennifer Lopez), has been cheated on by her husband Garrett. She takes her son Kevin and leaves Garrett to go live on her own, while she follows through a divorce. Still moping about her luck, she bumps into Noah, a young boy, who has just moved into the neighborhood and is going to be attending school with her son. Soon Noah and Kevin become friends and he gets invited to dinner to Claire’s place. Over the course of the meal, Claire discovers that her love for literature is shared by Noah, and they end up sleeping together. Almost immediately regretting her actions, She tells Noah they can’t ever do this again, which makes him lose his shit. Over the next few weeks, its becoming clearer that Noah is a psycho and isn’t about to let Claire go so easily.

The Boy Next Door is a pretty bad movie. While the actors have done an okay job, the plot is quite dull, and at times nonsensical. The dialogues are cringeworthy and just about ever trope in the thriller genre is used in the movie. You should definitely avoid this one.
