Verdict

“Burma is quirky with an off-beat concept, but the barely engaging narrative spoils the fun - an ambitious attempt at a crime thriller. A one time watch.”

Burma, directed by debutant Dharanidharan is all about Burma, who makes living out of car seizing starring Michael Thangadurai, Reshmi Menon as the lead and Sampath Raj, Atul Kulkarni, Karthik Sabesh plays the supportive role.

The film begins with Burma (Michael Thangadurai) seizing a car on a highway and tile card starts to roll with the introduction of the characters like Guna (Sampath Raj), Setu (Atul Kulkarni), Broker Ravi. Story line of the film is pretty simple, Guna is the famous car seizer in the city and Burma works for him. When Burma gets to know Guna pays him less & cheats him, he plans and gets Guna trapped and arrested. By the time Guna gets released from jail, Burma catches his position and gets to work for Setu directly.

Burma is in love with Kalpana (Reshmi Menon) and plans to settle down. There comes an opportunity for Burma to seize 28 cars for Setu. Burma seizes 27 cars in no time. Actual story starts to begin with the 28th car. That ends the first half too. Second half lifts this crime thriller big time with some interesting twist and turns. There are two other stories running parallel to this. While the first one is about a gang that plans to rob security van carrying ATM money worth crores, the second is about another gang that plans to rob from this gang.

Burma definitely one among the category of dark comedy films like Soodhu Kavvum. Sudharshan M Kumar’s background scores are opt and it goes very well with the story. The choice of Michael Thangadurai, Reshmi Menon, Sampath Raj, Atul Kulkarni, Karthik Sabesh are perfect. Overall, Burma is decent crime thriller, definitely watchable, worth for your money compared to all recent commercial releases!!
