Nothing is sweet as revenge! The worlds oldest theme when it to comes to movie genres. The shades of grey become darker with a weaker story line.

The movie is nothing but an ill devised plan by a victim on his tormentors. Its his way of pay back at getting even with the agony he faced at the hands of these characters. The characters of the movie are brought together to an isolated place under the pretext of a party cum get together. Then the impending surprise of a vengeful victim unfolds on the unsuspecting crowd to take them by storm. The rest of the story is far less tolerable.

far less tolerable. As for the performance of the cast it is not the silver lining in the movie, as there is none in the entire movie. Their performance is amateurish. Oh yes the skin was meant to compensate the boredom.

Bottom line the movie is a test of patience for the able mind and for the rest the movie it is a sleazy flick with mindless acting.

Bold, experimental, off the beaten path is the new flavor of the season in Bollywood. Chitkabrey falls into this category, but as a very bad example.

Dealing with the issue of ragging in college campuses, Chitkabrey is the story of a group of men who, along with their spouses, receive an anonymous invite to a house. Predictably, on reaching there, they find an absent host, who in a very Big Boss-ish tone, threatens to reveal their real identities and past crimes.

The problem with the film is that it takes its experimental self a tad too seriously, ending up in a complete farce. The biggest problem is the utterly insipid performances, especially by Ravi Kishan the lead. He hams it up in every frame, making one cringe with embarrassment half way through the film. The director too opts for a holier than thou tone, making the film very preachy. Envelopes are pushed in terms of onscreen nudity. This comes across more as a gimmick to fill seats in the hall, and not an aesthetic artistic expression.

I am all for experimental cinema and quirky storytelling. Chitkabrey is neither. Films like these infact harm the greater cause of out of the box cinema. Avoid it at all costs. view less

Chitkabrey is less a film about shades of greys and more about the various hues of black and how easily they can actually get compromised when ones life is at stake and the true colors distort not just relationships but even reveal the naked colors that lurk below the surface and burst into the open at the slightest provocation. Chitkabrey may certainly not be the boldest film ever seen in Indian cinema as it was being touted but believe me then it isn't anything like you may have seen before and that alone makes it a must watch film.


Indeed Chitkabrey is a hard hitting film and most of the time it does hit below the belt and makes one real uncomfortable but that does not change anything because it is almost like watching in a mirror and what reflects back is murky and dark but then it is there that's why it reflects.So if it makes you uncomfortable it's no fault of the mirror really.


Unlike most films that pretend to be bold films but only use that as an excuse to be sleazy and cater to the soft porn audience in Chitkabrey even though there are dollops of Sex there is nothing cheesy about it and what is more full credit goes to Suneet Arora the director who has handled the steamy hot Sex scenes with such finesse that they actually come across as classy rather than going over the top or standing out like a sore thumb. Infact, Chitkabrey has such a powerful script and the performances are also soo impressive that Sex even though presented prominently jells into the film and thus it does not appear sleazy or seedy for that matter.


Ravi Kissen may appear rather misplaced as the college student who is ruthlessly ragged and forced to flee the engineering college but once that is wrapped up then he is truly in his element as he mesmerises with his hard hitting performance that has a neat mix of Big Boss and Sach Ka Samna as he takes his ex-tormentors to task once they're at his mercy and the past and future jell perfectly into the present and create a terrifing scenario. Apart from Ravi Kissen most of the male cast is either fresh or else unheard of and that makes their performance all the more worth appreciating.


But more than the seven college friends who re-unite after 15 years after having drifted apart it's their wives each soo different from the others and yet having a unique bonding when they find themselves isolated and running against time to meet the impossible deadline is what makes each of them give a performance that is not going to be easily forgotten in a hurry. While each one of the seven wives played by Divya Dwivedi, Akshahhrra Gowda,Puja Gupta, Jaswinder Gardner, Khusbu Gupta, Susanna Mohan & Svetlana Manoloya have given bold and praise worthy performances it's Divya,Jaswinder, Akshahhrra,Khusbu n Susanna who really stand out and they actually linger on long after the film is over and the lights turn on.


What one needs to add is that Chitkabrey may be a well intentioned film with a rather unique plot but one better be sure if they want to see it with the entire family or else one may end up squirming in the seat once the Sex takes over full blast and the film turns into nothing you may have seen before. Not sure if the Indian audience are ready to watch this kind of a film with the family in a theater.But having said that be rest assured the Sex in no way takes away from the plot and the screenplay of the film.


Chitkabrey almost appears like a reality game show where 7 couples are conned into believing that they're attending a college reunion party after 15 long years with their wives in tow but what is in store for them is quite differently and leaves each one of them stunned as their past is refreshed in the form of each one of them being forced to confess their darkest secrets at gun-point. Once all of them have been stripped of their cover and exposed in front of their spouses the real twist comes where each one of them is forced to pay a mighty ransom to save their skin.


While the husbands are kept hostage in captivity the wives are set free to go out and arrange a huge ransom within 24 hours if they want to have their hubbys freed. The race against times mirrors the true characteristics in each of the wives who reflects her true colors and how each goes about trying to raise the funds and how they're tempted to dump their two timing cheating husbands and move on with their lives.


All said and done Chitkabrey is indeed a truly different kind of film that is certainly not run of the mill nor does it preach fake sermons but just reflects present day societyand how couples who seem madly in love actually react when cornered and find themselves staring death in the face. Kudos to Suneet Arora for putting in his own money into such a different kind of film simply because he had the courage of conviction to make an absolutely different kind of film that may not set the box-office on fire but will certainly make the audience sit up and do some serious thinking after watching this film that could be a page out of anyone's life and that's what makes Chitkabrey so different and exciting too!!
