The coolest film hitherto. Debutante Farhan Akhtar brought out one of the coolest films in Bollywood. No doubt, the movie won National Award for Best Feature Film. A not so-different story, but a completely new treatment meted out to it made it one of most trendiest films of the times.
A story about three friends moving out of college, have different perspectives about life and everything. Akash (aamir Khan) is non-serious kind of guy, who doesn't believe in love and views relationship as a temporary commitment. Sameer (Saif Ali Khan) is a confused guy who fells in love with every girl he likes and believes this is his true love. He is the object of leg pulling by his friends and always make himself fell in trouble. Siddharth (Akshaye Khanna) is the most serious them of all in terms of every matter, him being an artist has deep perspectives about life and everything. Once in club, Akash bets to impress Shalini (Preity zinta) and asks her for dance. In return, he gets a punch back from her boyfriend.
The story is a fun ride. But then, Akash and Sid opinions clash, and they have a fight which leads to their friendship breakup. Akash moves to Sydney for his father's business. He met Shalini again and they are friends now, and then love blossoms between both, although Preity is about to marry her
childhood friend. Meanwhile, Sid is in love with Tara (dimple Kapadia) and Sameer is in love with Sonali Kulkarni, who is in love with some cartoon character.
The story is very funny, the performances by Aamir as a flirtatious to serious, Saif as confused and Akshaye as deeply thoughtful are brilliant. The story evolves really good, the sub-plots are very intriguing and it completely looks like a new world created by Farhan's vision, with viewers just seems to be on a picnic. The friendships and the relationships is so beautifully presented, that you are left with nothing less than awe.
Music is great. Cinematography is brilliant and choreography of song "Woh Ladki hai Kahan" is outstanding. What else it scores over is the cool hair-do given to the actors, which made the 35 odd actors look like 25, the hair stylist is none other FArhan's wife.
Son of the legendary script and lyrics writer Javed Akhtar, Farhan Akhtar truly proved his potential with his first film. One of the best films of its times, it lead to a spur of similar cool treatmentview less
