Amarkant "Amar" Verma (Shahrukh Khan) is a radio jockey (or presenter, in the earlier radio days there was no jockey term) & journalist in All India Radio, Delhi. He is very romantic in nature and his programmes reflect that. He is been sent to North-East region to know about people views about the upcoming 50th year of Independence. He goes on to interview a terrorist group fearlessly. He also meets Meghna (Manisha Koirala) and fells for her. He keeps chasing her and she keeps avoiding him. She ends up telling him that she is married, and then when he wents to apologise to her, she brings two men who beats him. This excites him again to follow her and he reaches Ladakh in her quest.

Brilliant cinematography has always ensued Mani Ratnam's films, this one is no exception, now that the first time he has added a super-star power in his films in the name of Sharukh Khan. But as always, his films lack the capabilities of a Bollywood box office ringer and again this one is no different.

Amarkant "Amar" Verma (Shahrukh Khan) is a radio jockey (or presenter, in the earlier radio days there was no jockey term) & journalist in All India Radio, Delhi. He is very romantic in nature and his programmes reflect that. He is been sent to North-East region to know about people views about the upcoming 50th year of Independence. On his coming back, his parents decides to get him married with Preity Nair(Preity Zinta). They both agree, although he is still in love with Meghna. Meghna then comes to delhi and asks Amar to keep him in his house for a while. Amar agrees. Later, it turns out that Meghna is a terrorist.

The biggest flaw in the film is the story, which makes you so confuse that you can't figure out its a love story, a terrorist oriented story or a story of betrayals. The script is highly inconsistent throughout its length. Some good performances, Shahrukh tries his best to play a brainless lover, Manisha to an callous betrayer and then breaking with an emotional angst. Preity the new comer looks very promising and the dimple smile compliments well with SRK's dimple smile.

A.R. Rehman's music is diverse, different and exciting. From Chartbuster rocking Chaiyya Chaiyya to an invigorating Tu he re. The choreography is brilliant showing intense love in some songs, to a mindblowing & complete different standing on moving train dance 'chaiyya chaiyya'. Farah is the queen of choreographers for sure, after this movie.

The ending is hurried. The conclusion won't make you keep happy. The direction too lacks, getting the baadshah of Bollywood getting beaten up by every now and then would piss off the audiences. Shahrukh should have avoided this role, which was not consistently written. Good for the bubbly new-comer Preity Zinta to show her effervescene.

The film lacks making the audiences Chaiyya Chaiiyaa.
