Remember the good old days of comedy thrillers like Kshana Kshanam, Money, Money Money, etc. ? Dongaata tries something similar, a botched kidnapping, goons who are really not up to it and a charming bubbly girl (Lakshmi Manchu) who is technically an all-in-one in the movie. Then to add more comedy to mix is Man on Fire Brahmanandam who has his own thread. Dongaata is a fun movie, if you are used to Telugu comedy. There are no big stars but Adivi Sesh does the role of a good looking smooth talker with his own ulterior plans well. Dongaata by Vamsi Krishna is an easy on the mind movie. It even manages to be thrilling for a few minutes into the first half. But, comedy thrillers are tough to pull off, and they need really good writing, whether it is the plot or the dialogues. Although the humor here is a good mix of subtle and slapstick and the actors more or less pull off their roles, the low-budget flick, if you could say so, in spite of decent production quality, lacks the punch that makes a movie a must-watch or a runaway hit. It's like any different movie of the recent past that starts with good intentions and yet, slowly merges into mainstream crass, lettign the audience down after initially raising expectations to go.
