The latest bollywood trend is on. The word is remakes. Here comes one other such flick from Kollywood. Its a remake of super duper cop movie Kaaka kaaka starring Surya directed by acclaimed Director Gautham menon.

John plays a narco cop who is totally confined to himself and is reserved to the extent the audience starts pondering is John hibernating in day light. The introvert portrayed by John never impresses or dint even strike the awe chord in me.The John Abraham starrer is full of fab abs and toned muscles.The already overly flaunted muscles are an over dose to a regular bollywood movie buff. The built physique and beefy torso is supposedly for the audience to make believe and make sensible John's super human feats in tackling villains from drug cartels.

The story is based on John fight against the country's powerful drug cartels. The movie does justice to the viewer who has an unsatiable thirst for action packed bloody fight sequences. Vendetta is a part of the masala included by the director. John's only worthy counter part comes in the form of this new debutant Villain. He has made a mark and is an actor to be watched out for in the future. The role of uber cool villain has been justified well.Though the first half drags along , the second half post interval has a few sequence to keep the audience on the edge of the seat.The climax action sequence is a raw nail bitting sequence , it punches the force into the movie.

As for the other cast bubbly Genelia's bubbliness is too much of the same to digest.Her part has been done well to serve as a chirpy NGO activist. There are scenes in the movie where Genelia has performed well especially when confronting John when she expresses her love interest in him.

There are songs that are loosely fitted in here and there are some songs which are the exact replica even of the location let alone the music and costumes from Kaaka kaaka.

The rest of the cast have done a commendable job , even though few actors were totally under utilised.The overrating of the movie could have been avoided. The movie will be a treat for audience who have no expectations.

he bottom line is the viewer needs to pull through the movie "FORCE" fully and for the second half there is enough force in the package to keep the audience engrossed. Advisable for people who have not reached their thresholds on south indian remakes and super human strength ( forgot to mention the tossing of a 100 + Kg bike ).

Last sunday I saw Kakka Kakka for the 2nd time. My wife tells me that it was a rage during her college days. It was then a task to watch Force without any prejudice towards the casting of John & Genelia.

What's it about? - It's a love story of Narcotics officer (John) with a parallel track of the workings of the narcotics department.

Does it work for me ? - Yes / No

Why? - The strong point of Kakka Kakka was the love story and the chemistry between Suriya & Jyotika worked for the film. Here it fails completely so I didn't connect with the love story at all. In fact the romantic scenes were roadblocks for me. If you don't like Genelia's voice her scenes with John will be torturous to watch. Her constant repetition of "ACP sir" in that nasal twang just gets to you if like me you are not sitting in the theatre in a dhyan mudra. I had zero expectation from both John & Genelia but they were not as bad as my expectation.

What worked for me in the film was the track involving the workings of the narcotics dept. It's USP being the way those scenes were shot and cut. The editing (Arif Shaikh) and background music are the two stars in the film. There is a minor twist towards the end. It could have been exploited to lead to an interesting climax and if written well this move could have made the love story work for John and Genelia. The original ending which was probably the reason for the original to have attained a cult status in the south doesn't work here. Nishikant Kamat makes an interesting transition from his earlier films to hardcore mainstream cinema but he should have picked up an original script to do that. The guy who plays Kamlesh (Khakee) gets the best lines in the film. No respect lost for Nishikant Kamat yet in spite of this being his weakest film. Reminds me of the conversation I overheard in the theatre. One boy to another boy 1 "John alag alag film karta hai" boy 2 " ussse kya hota hai? Film chalni bhi chahiye". I think I know why Nishikant made this film.

Final few words : Force is for those who like watching rippling muskals on screen and can sit through John & Genelia in a meditative pose like me.

Force is a big test for John Abraham. Not only does he have to fight the baddies but he also has to romance a perky Genelia and look grief stricken at needless deaths as well. It helps that his character is supposed to be heartless like a "sukha ped". That means a deadpan face with an occasional grimace can pass off as anger and sorrow and his dimples perform their romantic duty to perfection. But he just about passes the test and though I would not catapult him into the top league, he proves that he can try to get there.

Force revolves around the fight of a crack team of 4 cops of the Narcotics Bureau against drug lords. The cops kill a top dealer and his brother decides to go after them to avenge his death. Woven into this main story is the romance between the lead pair and the friendship and camaraderie of the team.

The action is fast, furious and well paced out. The cops are super efficient and are not over the top in their histrionics. All their fighting is done as part of their job without needless masochism and that adds to the authenticity of the action. The romantic scenes could have been better but John's well built shoulders can carry only so much responsibility. The only parts that jarr are the preachy ones where he starts to lecture about the government and Kasab etc etc. The songs are forgettable but fortunately there are few of them. The director has resisted adding an item number though that would have been too tempting given that it's full of gangster types.

John's body language is a bit awkward and he needs to work on that. Otherwise, a good performance. Genelia is sweet and adds a light touch to the proceedings. The romance has some pretty neat dialogues thrown in.I also like the new trend of showing women in a bolder light, declaring their love matter of factly and asking for what they want without being coy and simpering about it.Raj Babbar as the Commissioner puts in a good understated performance. And the new kid on the block. Vidyut Jamwal as Vishnu is smouldering hot. He is not beefy like John, but has a lean fighter look. One fight in a meat house with these two bare chested men having a go at each other will have women swooning for sure. Mohnish Bahl playing one of the team, displays good restraint in his acting. Its good to see him here. Sandhya Mridul in a very tiny role is quite efficient.

Overall,Force is an enjoyable action movie to watch. The fights are well choreographed, the romance not over the top and the story quite credible. Good value for your money. view less

The remake of the 2003 Suriya, Jyothika Tamil hit, Kaakha Kaakha, FORCE, was expected to provide a lot of punch! Directed by Nishikant Kamath and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, this film had the strong backing that such products require. Does it manage to deliver?


ACP Yashwardhan (John Abraham, Dhoom, Jhootha Hi Sahi) heads a covert team of anti narcotics cops Atul (Mohnish Behl), Kamlesh (Kamlesh Sawant) and Ritesh (Amit Gaurr). The crack down the various drug cartels based on the leads by Yashs informant, Arvind. Eventually it turns out that Arvind was a ploy in the play of the Reddy brothers (Mukesh Rishi) and his younger sibling, Vishnu (Vidyut Jaammval), who used the cops to wipe out their competition. In an attempt to arrest Anna, the cops kill him, which sends Vishnu in a mad frenzy of revenge.

On the side, Atul is married to Swati (Sandhya Mridul), Amit is living in with Rachna (Anaitha Nair), Kamlesh is single and Yash is finally convinced of the fact that fearless cops can have personal lives, hence he falls in love with Maya (Genelia Dsouza), a social worker with a golden heart and lovely eyes.

Nothing great about the story here, so it all boils down to the action. Nishikant Kamat does no wonders with the script here, so no marks to him. The film might as well have been directed by the action director Allan Amin, who does a fantastic job, yet again. The songs by Harris Jayraj, although pleasant, are a major irritant in the film. Even the editing for that matter, by Aarif Shaikh should have been more ruthless. Whilst he does complete justice to the serious stuff in the film, he lets loose in terms of developing the love story, which past a point becomes a distraction. The film starts of precisely like Ghajini, with the real time intense moments, leading to the flashback of the love story. Unfortunately by the time the film comes back into reality, you feel restless and want it to get over with. Thats when the final action sequence takes place again.

The supporting cast of Raj Babbar, Mohnish Behl, Sandhya Mridul are all good competent actors, hence one feels that should have been given meatier parts, would have added to the films flavour. Anaitha Nair is wasted, with barely a dialogue in the film. Genelia is cute as always and does bring her effervescent charm to the film. Yes, the repeated acp sir can get to you, but she does look beautiful.

That leaves us to the 2 bare chested, well chiselled men in the film. John Abraham delivers an understated performance, once again. His no nonsense cop act, reminds you of his similar no nonsense thief act from Dhoom. But the script doesnt give him much scope to perform, another failure on the part of Kamath. The dialogues though powerful, are far too few, which a character such as this required at regular intervals. Ideally, it should have been made with the original choice of Sunny Deol, as envisaged in 2004. Could have given a whole new definition to the character, as an actor such as him, does not need anything else besides his charisma and his dhai kilo ka haath.

Vidyut Jaammval is the revelation here and the true star of the film. As the villain, Vishnu, he brings and animal ferocity to his character, making his evil act far more convincing. He plays by no rules and hence everytime he comes on screen, you do shudder with fear, not knowing what next will his madness lead him to. Full marks to the debutante who sure will go places.

A must watch for all action fans. On the whole not a bad film at all, but giving the credentials of the makers, could have been far more better.

I have loved the original Tamil Kaka Kaka immensely, and cannot help but compare Force to the brilliantly executed Suriya cop caper. In comparison to the original, Force does not hold a candle. For those who have not seen the Tamil super hit, Force packs enough punch to entertain.

On the lines of Singham, Ghajini, Wanted, here is another south remake, with an heightened violence quotient and machismo. Force follows in this now successful formula, and is a decent film to sit through.

John Abraham plays a rough and touch cop, whose love interest, Genelia, forces him to choose between his profession and his love. It is a classic good guy chasing bad guy story, with some stunningly executed action sequences. John fits the role in terms of muscle and brawn. I would have liked a little more of acting from him, but then that would be asking for the moon.

Genelia plays a social activist, and tries to break her bubble teenager mold in terms of her look in the film. It is only when she opens her mouth that one can't but miss the innate irritating demented persona she has, that doesn;t suit many roles. John and Genelia do share an amount of chemistry, and the director exploits it well.

Force is a decent film to watch, especially for lovers of raw brute action. Another in the series of resurgent macho hero films, this delivers what it promised. Though not a patch on the original, it still commands a one time watch. view less
