Jackie Chan is pissed off quite bad since his two daughters aged around 10 or 12 were abducted and killed by sea pirates some years back and now his third school going daughter dies a violent death in a terrorist bombing in London city. He is of Chinese origin and an ex military person. ( The film is based on a novel " The Chinaman" and hence the title of the film ).
The film is about how Chan seeks his vengeance by getting after an Irish deputy minister Pierce Brosnan and making his life miserable since he feels he will know the names of the terrorists who killed his daughter.
For fans of Chan who have liked him in "Rush hour" series I might mention that the film has a mature and jaded Chan with a sad expression probably because his three daughters were killed under violent circumstances. But have no fear because there is plenty of action as Chan gets into martial art mode despite his age and all his anger gets converted into bashing his opponent. This happens mainly in the first half. Chan's character uses arms and explosives like an expert to wreak havoc on Brosnan and his cronies and this gets justified in the film since he is an ex military person.
Director Martin Campbell seems to be heavily influenced by his films on James Bond and Rambo as he presents an exciting thriller which keeps one engaged. He can be credited for presenting Chan in a different avatar. The action scenes are excellent and the stunts by Chan will definitely please his fans.
In the acting area Chan is required to only show expressions and hardly has any dialogue. Surprisingly he does well. Pierce Brosnan in a menacing and angry role has tons of dialogue to deliver as he spews venom against Chan. He also has done a good job.
In brief this is a good action flick which lovers of action films and fans of Chan will like.
