Bizzare. Thats the first thing that comes to my mind when I think of a word to describe Hate Story 2. It’s also sleazy, full of plot holes, not very well acted (other than a few). It’s also a movie you can watch without really regretting it.
The plot is a typical tale of revenge. Sonika (Surveen Chawla) is Mandar Mhatre’s (Sushant Singh, who is the brilliant boss man) mistress. She’s kept under a leash (not literally!) by him and has no freedom to do anything she wishes to, and that includes killing herself. That’s not enough to stop love though (Is it ever?), as she falls for a boy from her photography class (played by Jay Bhanushali). Being an egotistical politician, Mandar couldn’t stand for this and decides to personally dispose of these two nuisances. After drowning the boyfriend, he decides to bury Sonika alive. Good fortune smiles her way, as an old man rescues her and takes her to the hospital. Thus begins her bizarre quest for revenge which spans a few days, during the course of which she learns how to shoot a gun, cures herself from brain damage, writes her diary, and comes up with a diabolical plan amongst other things.
Hate story 2 has all the makings of a bad movie. The story is not really captivating. The music is meh (Especially ‘pink lips’). The acting is mostly dull. I say ‘mostly’ only because the mediocre acting has a notable exception in the form of Sushant Singh. He carries the movie on his shoulders. His threats were delivered with venom, his idioms with all the wisdom of a monk (and he has a WHOLE lot of them). So watch it if you’re into the Bhatt camp kind of films and be sure to take a few friends along with you.
