plot

It is disheartening to see how, on one hand, the dream of AZAD KASHMIR is creating the slavery of terrorism and on the other hand the brute force to keep the peace, is creating more casualties. But in this terrifying situation, the most amazing species, called the humans, is still surviving. And they are surviving with tear...more

Verdict

“Despite having heavy weight actors like Saurabh Shukla and Brijendra Kala, Identity Card does't deliver thanks to a hogde-podge script and wayward direction. Skip it. ”

Kashmir ke saath bahut zulm hua hai; take Identity Card for one. A promising cast, an intersting premise and then you just let everything flow down the River Jhelum.

A wanna be TV journalist cajoles Angry Young Woman Boss to send her off on a "grown up" assignment. Boss Lady tosses a "sensitive areas par documentary bana do" suggestion as check makemyrtip for 2 Days 3 Nights in Where the Wild Things Are. North East? Kashmir?

Our Alice in Blunderland arrives in Kashmir and proceeds to shriek at the jannat the place is and yes attempts a Sally making out with her salad from When Harry Met Sally with a wazwan in a Kashmiri restaurant. Or something like that.

She gets arrested by mysterious Special Force along with her friend "goody two shoes attempting Kashmir Admin Services exam" and endearing guide Raju (Dev Anand sahib bahut yaad aaye. Sigh! how has the mghty Guide fallen). Why are they in custody? Well I blame the Wazwan incident but no apparently the powers that be suspect them of something worse. Let the torture games begin.

In between the men in khaki break off for some "small town, hum log" types vignettes. And it all wraps up very messily with talk of rehabilitation versus collateral damage.

I dont know. This movie did nothing for me. Yes there are some exchanges between the Saurabh Shukla and Brijendra Kala, small time pawns in the terror games, but two exchanges do not a Kashmir Spring make.

I think this is the kind of movie which will do very well on the Inter Services Public Relations festivals but other than that no. Sorry, no.
