Jia aur Jia is a very boring cliché ridden movie. Right from the story to the casting to the dialogues to the climax, everything is predictable. If the powers-that-be who decide which movies get made thought they were making a strong movie on women and the sisterhood, they probably should have looked at something smarter and better than this.

So, two women, both called Jia, travel to Sweden with their own agendas. They don’t know each other but become travel companions. One Jia is the peppy devil-may-care attitude one who is a natural child and lives that way. The other Jia is plagued with angst and a death wish. Along the way they also pick up an Indian guy living in Sweden guy and the peppy one even falls in love. Of course, there are secrets and when they are revealed you have to yawn even more because they are, yes you guessed right, clichéd.

Kalki of course, plays the peppy one and the role is a breeze for her. She also gets the few good lines in the script and she delivers them with aplomb. Richa Chadda who is a fine actress otherwise looks totally lost here and acts very artificially, as if she wants to be elsewhere. The Swedish Indian guy played by Arslan Goni is again mediocre but likeable.

The concluding parts of the movie are totally ridiculous and make no sense. I guess the Director was smoking up the left -over cigarette from one of the scenes where the girls are acting all liberated and all. This movie has made me sleepy on a Friday afternoon. I guess I’ll have to go and see Golmaal again. Avoid.
