It is a battle of values between two individually crazy families -- one that encourages discipline and...more

Verdict

“If you haven't seen the original, love rom-coms and can stand Sonam Kapoor's antics then you'll have a gala time watching Khoobsurat! The quirky music and a gorgeous Fawad Khan are the undoubted show stealers! ”

Lets face it, there are only a handful of people who might have actually not liked the classic Khoobsurat, so when it was announced as a remake, I wasn't quite sure, considering its a tall order to match the magic it created. With a few colorful promos, I went in weary & came out with my fears come true.

This one's a kitschy, attempting-to-be-cooler version that loses its soul in the bargain.

Pros:

1. Some genuinely good music by Sneha Khanwalkar & Baadshah

2. A knockout performance by Ratna Pathak, the star of the film.

3. A good looking & understated show by Fawad Khan

4. Few good laughs somewhere along the journey

5. Beautifuly shot with Disney stamped on every frame

6. Kirron Kher doing the same thing, yet again but still nailing it.

Cons:

1. A very loud Sonam Kapoor that didnt work for me

2. A plot that goes meandering away with endless focus on unnecessary gags

3. Somewhere the soul of the original goes completely missing, making it a slightly more plastic version of Khoobsurat

4. Preachy punches that could be easily avoided.

5. Not engaging enough, it loses steam along the journey.

To sum it up, this Royal Adventure is slightly misguided & though its not all that bad, it doesn't quite make the cut. There is a lot that one could do to salvage it but for now, Id suggest you rent the original and watch it, still funnier & more enjoyable.
