Kismet Love Paisa Dilli

A movie in which the action happens over the course of one night can be a whole lot of things. It can be an action movie like Die Hard or a romantic movie like Before Sunrise or a mad comedy like Harold and Kumar go to Whitecastle (the latter two are in my list of all time favourite movies). It can also be a crashing BORE like KLPD.

The title is irreverent and you expect some fun. But then you realize that it has Vivek Oberoi so you halve the fun expectation. Then you also realize there is Mallika Sherawat and then Neha Dhupia looking muscular in a white sari. So then you just slide into you seat and hunker down for two plus hours of idiocy.

I won't bore you with the story. The jokes are bad, the acting insipid (Vivek can't pull off a Delhi boy act. We have seen too many Delhi boy movies recently to be convinced by him) and there are a couple of pukey scenes involving pee and alcohol and gutka. I would have preferred to watch circus clowns slapping each others butts with paddles to this inane humour.

Ok, no more ranting. You got the point. I got KLPDed. No reason why you should too. AVOID.

As the credits roll down on the screen, one wonders what could have been worse than watching a full show of KLPD. The answer, sadly, is little else.

Vivek Oberoi is a Delhite, cuss word mouthing, skirt chasing rapist in the making for whom every prety thing on two legs is a totta. He gets handed a letter by Neha Dhupia on Delhi metro train, which gets him into a suicide case. Interspread with this is a love story with Mallika Sherawat and sting operation on a politician and a rough flashback of Vivek's last 24 hours.

Nothing in the movie can pass of for anything decent and remotely entertaining. Cras humor, scanty sense of logic of meaning, completely lousy music and effortlessly underpar performances are the hallmark of this enterprise.

Vivek Oberoi grates on the nerves from the very first scene. He is irritating, over enthusiastic and utterly charmless. Perhaps he was better off hibernating for films than coming back with something this tasteless. Mallika is her usual self in films that befit her talent or the lack of it. Rest of the cast is embarrasingly juvenile but then who isnt in the movie as a whole.

Lacking in anything smart in story, the film could have done with some crisper screenplay and dialogues. Sadly, that is also not taken care of. Lines that are outright offensive and crass litter the film incessantly managing to gross you out. Stay far far away from this one, it is not even as colorful as the namesake gaali.

Sanjay Khanduri made his directorial debut in 2007 with Ek chalis ki last local. After 5 years he makes his second film which is in the same space as his first film almost like a sequel where the only thing common is missing the last train.

Vivek Oberoi is Lokesh who's life changes when one mysterious woman (Neha Dhupia) enters the 11.40pm last metro and gives him a letter to be delivered to his husband on the next station. What follows is a night of adventure filled with weird characters and weirder situations.

I liked ek chalis ki last local but this film looks like it has been made by an amateur who loved the earlier film and wanted to replicate what he saw.

If it was intended as a comedy then truth be told no one in the theatre laughed at a single scene including me.

There's the usual stock of characters like a politician and his coterie who are after a tape, a gay fashion designer straight out of a Madhur Bhandarkar film called Rohit Pichvaade, a pizza delivery boy called Nunna (Anshuman Jha) who was the most interesting character of the lot and was played well by Anshuman but it belonged to a whacky film. It didn't fit in here and was completely wasted. Even the character of captaan(Ashutosh Rana) and his chamchas gives a seen before kind of feel.

The song appy budday is the only silver lining in this dark cloudy film.

Neither Vivek Oberoi nor Mallika Sherawat could save a film that is running helter skelter in all directions. Just like the t shirt they wore in the poster the film is screw#d

Word of mouth - is raat ki subah nahin (1996) is the best one night thriller I have seen in Hindi cinema. klpd comes nowhere close to it.

Some of the performances in the movie especially the characters of the Kaptaan (Ashutosh Rana) and Nunna (Anshuman Jha) are a class apart. The film maker should have kept such characters in the forefront, but sadly they are missing from the posters, trailers and to a large extent the movie. In the edit it is very clear that their scenes have been cut, I guess to accommodate more mind draining scenes of Mallika and Vivek.
\r"The whole movie would have been a lot better if all the main characters in it had an equal share of screen time and more so both Mallika Sherawat and Vivek Oberoi could not pull off the college age look especially Mallika Sherawat. Vivek Oberoi should do more serious roles, his stature and looks are not meant for comedy. I personally went to see Ashutosh Rana and Anshuman Jha. Would love to see them work together on something, both these actors saved the movie from a total disaster.
