The story of the Kray Twins and their rise and fall in London of the 1960s is likable for some reasons and detestable for others. Tom Hardy plays the twins Ronald and Reginald. Ronald is a blood-thirsty psychopath whereas Reginald is the suave, smooth talker who loved to be the face of the crime ring, while running a prestigious club and mingle with big shots. One is insecure and the other confident. Frances Shea, the love of Reginald is played by Frances and it is she who takes the cake, as the cute, conflicted, damsel in love and wants to take her love away to somewhere clean. But it doesn't end well for anyone.

The movie is half about love, half about loyalty in the backdrop of violence and the rise of the gangsters. Yet, you don't get to see much of the gangster wars, or of the cops working to get the twins, except for a constantly following van. The chemistry between the two brothers is worked up well but somewhere the movie misses the mark and the spark needed to draw the audience into the tangle of the three important characters. The exploits of the twins are shown well in couple of scenes like the barroom face-off but at no point does it really take off and therein lies the problem. The British accent and Ron's mumbling makes the movie tough to follow as well although the wry humour keeps you interested. All in all, a decent movie but not the great one you expected at the start.
