Ranbir’s steps and expressions inBadtameez Dilis said to be inspired by Shammi Kapoor's distinctive moves fromAaja aajafrom the 1966 movieTeesri ManzilandBaar Baar Dekhofrom the 1962 flickChina Town. Director Ayan Mukherji has though come out clear that nothing was planned and the song was not choreographed as an “ode” to Shammi Kapoor. The outcome which has come forward after the launch of the video is merely a co-incidence. Ayan also issued a statement, "I don't know if we can call it an ode to Shammiji. It wasn't a planned move. But now, when we look at some of the moves and Ranbir's mad energy, the similarities can't be ignored. I think people see the connection because Shammiji also possessed unparalleled energy when it came to dance.”

The peppy number, which has been choreographed by ace dancing star Remo D'Souza, took five days to complete its shooting. Ayan Mukherji, who earlier directed Ranbir inWake Up Sid, always wished to shoot a dance number by Ranbir, "I didn't have any song-and-dance number inWake Up Sid(2009), but I always wanted to explore shooting one. So I am really happy with the response.”Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewanihas already managed to captivate the viewers with its combo pack of energy and fun in its official trailer, starring Ranbir, Deepika Padukone, Aditya Roy Kapoor and Kalki Koechlin.
