Verdict: Despite strong casting of Sonu Sood and Naseeruddin Shah, the performances are underwhelming and the film isn't a competent thriller. Skip it!

The worst thing a fillmmaker who's just released a cop-thriller can expect is his film being called boring. But one fails to think of adjectives as scores of film reel unspools without going in a definite direction but, like its many pointless shots, haywire and you couldn't care less.

A story which plays more like Bad Cop Vs Bad Ass Cop wherein the criminal of Maximum City (the title refers to Mumbai and has a far-fetched metaphorical meaning) are unduly victimized because of an on-going ego war between two decidedly over-sombre cops.

Haphazardly entangled are stories of ugly politics and the police-politician nexus and the predictable lines which are written solely for effect and without any concern of its following implications.

The one saving grace of the film could have been the performances by the inspired casting of Naseerudin Shah and Sonu Sood but that too leaves you more than a little underwhelmed.

Although Sonu Sood, as the unapologetic toughie Pratap Singh tries to play his part with inherent seriousness (and devotion to family which includes Neha Dhupia), its Naseerudin Shah who appears a tad disinterested in his role, which becomes more a reason for his character's diminution. Vinay Pathak goes for an interesting detour and comes across plausibly cast as the sly politician but his appearance is too stereotypical and his character more than driving the plot, is purely for elemental value.

Maximum is made with the logic to induce maximum yawns. It keeps feeding you dialogues like, "Maximum Power chaiye to..." and there's even a guy who quotes from Macbeth but in the end its all a mumbo-jumbo of incessant gunfire where the person who gets shot the most is the audience. Skip!
