After watching the dark knight rises I reached another theatre to watch Mere dost picture abhi baaki hai (yes you can nominate me for a bravery award) and waited for 2 hrs as I had reached early. I also re - realized that I have the patience to not get affected by what I saw in the morning and judge this film on its due merit. Wish it had any.
The film is about Amar Joshi (Sunil Shetty) from Benaras who trains himself in direction in a film institute in London. He has written a film based on a true rape case of a journalist. He lands up in Mumbai to make the film but ends up getting mentally raped by an assortment of characters.
There is nothing that you have not seen before when it comes to the clichd depiction of how the Hindi film industry functions. This film has all of that and that too in a caricatured over the top style. Even one of my favorite actors Razzak Khan who plays a balls shifting foul mouthed director specializing in dacoit films was not able to crack me up.
To add to the misery is Shayan Munshi and Shahwar Ali. None of the other actors makes you cringe and tear your hair out as much as these two.
Rajnish Raj Thakur makes a very unimpressive debut as a director. As a writer he has written some fun stuff in Road and Love ke liye kuch bhi karega. In fact the track in LKLKBK of aaj kapoor is laugh out loud funny. This film is that same track stretched to infinity.
If you want to see the struggle of a filmmaker making his film watch Supermen of Malegaon. Real life is more funny,dramatic & impactful than reel life.
Final few words picture baaki rehke atki hoti toh better hota.
