The only question on my mind getting into the Minion Moive was can these cute yellow pill shaped creatures be the hero of a full length movie. They have left us in splits as the side kicks to Gru in two films, they have brightened many a dull office day with their short antics on youtube. Can they actually regale us on the silver screen in their own movie? The answe is No. Minions Movie looses steam ten minutes into the film and never ever manages to get back on track.

A prequel to the Despicable me series, Minions Movie begins with a voice over backstory of how these yellow beings started off from the age of dinosaurs to modern man trying to find an evil master. Unsuccessful all along, they meet Scarlet , the queen of super villians, in 1968. Scarlet wants them to steal England's Queen's crown which they do, but manage to anger her in the process. What ensues is a dull drab series of events that you forgive only and only because the minions are too cute to be angry with.

Make no mistake, this film has all the tropes of a showcase- Minions are all over, they are the centre of the movie, paced at breakneck speed, there are chases and jokes strewn all over. Yet none of it works. The jokes fall flat, the story line is lame, Scarlet is no match to Gru's wit or personality and Sandra Bullock does a horrible job voicing her (there are many times her voice does not even match the energy of tthe animated character;s expressions).

The leaves a lot to be done by the minions themselves. Poor souls, cause they are better suited to be sideshows on a major act , not the act by themselves. Minions are not given inventive situations to make a mess of, they arent given cute quirks to make us fall off the seats. All we do is smile looking at them, and wait for something to happen.

They bloat them, they make them cross continents, they even radiate one into a megazied yellow monster, yet none of this works. The Minions Movie is the most unfunny outing of the cute favorites. Watch them only cause, well bananaa.
