Dont look now but it is the 80s again. Yup, the Muppets may be walking down (what I assume ) is a 2013 Time Square but the film soon takes a quick side exit into a 80s alley. Or maybe most of Europe still looks like the 80s / Cold War images never left. So there is a Siberian Gulag/Labour Camp, Tina Fey pulling off a pretty decent sketch of what we imagined of the prison guards for said gulags. So true she is to stereotype you can imagine Elton John drawing up in THAT car and warbling Oh Nikita.
So there is a Crime Master Constantine, of the 11 Mulkon Ki Police Dhoondh Rahi Hai or whatever the European Union now comprises of variety, he is a very very very bad frog ,catchphrase (insert East European accent)"It Is Not Easy Being Mean". Though they will never acknowledge it but in a plot borrowed from (and with a multi starrer cast DEFINITELY inspired by) the likes of Manmohan Desai , he has a Humshakal...tada our beloved Kermit The Frog. Our beloved cold blooded amphibian is getting cold feet when it comes to marrying Heroine Number 1 Ms Piggy (no not Piggy Chops, though yes it is freaky how the Don references are just not ending). So yes Kermit stammers his way into signing up The Muppets for a world tour with a pretty slimy tour manager (enter Ricky Gervais).
A quick switch, and a slap on mole-on -the-upper lip (and at this stage I am begging Kermit to call out Asli Kermit Main Hoon, MARK UDHAR HAI) later and evil evil Constantin has smuggled himself into the Muppet on a World Tour cultural troupe, Kermit unfortunately thrown into a slammer in the cold climes of Siberia.
There is also a Main Khiladi CIA Tou Anari Interpol Agent side gag, but even then the movie never throws any great surprises. It is a trifle long for the little ones, but the grown ups will get their paisa vasool. Yes, a Celine Dion will NEVER be a Agnetha Fältskog but the movie does try to tick most of our Nostalgic For The Muppets Boxes.
Watch it. It remains to be seen whether it will be the Most Wanted of the Muppets franchise.view less
