For most of the mindless comic capers nowadays, makers provide an advance statuary-warning not to carry their brains to the theatres. But believe me, none could flaunt this tag better than the (not-so) thinking-tank of 'No-Problem'. Anees Bazmi thrives on such No-brainers and against all odds (Read 'critics') managed hat-trick of hits, namely No-Entry, Welcome and Singh Is Kinng. His latest offering also revolves around the same formula which juxtapose more than dozen characters which makes clown out of themselves (and sometimes, audiences too).

Though Anees' movies generally suffer from too many valleys and very few of peaks, but one thing is constant for sure; all the characters, whether good or bad, excels in buffoonery act. For a change, though, this time Anees Bazmi had the services of number of big stars and they come to the rescue of lack-lustre screenplay, to an extent. The biggest 'problem' with this ironicly-titled film is the fact that the characters and situations are so very predictable; once you make-up your mind as per the depicted mad-mad world, each and every move could be foreseen and that kills all the fun. There are surely few scenes that do tickle your funny bone (provided, the bone is not connected to brain) but those are too few and too far. Similar to the whole product, climax was also mixed bag; on one hand, Gorilla scene was highly uncalled for, but Anees' tribute to 'Singh is King" was satisfactory to say the least.

As I said, impressive starcast makes 'No-Problem' a decent watch. The likes of Sanjay Dutt, Akshay Khanna and Paresh Rawal plays their respective tomfoolery to perfection. Sushmita impresses to start with, but soon becomes too monotonous for her own comfort. While Suniel Shetty is wasted, its good to see Ranjeet with his 'Once in a Blue-Moon' enactment after a big hiatus. Kangna Ranaut hams for his life and Neetu Chandra thrives on her oomph-appeal. Vijay Raaz enthralls with his little cameo, though the preachings at the end could have been avoided. Like in No-Entry, the pick of the lot is Anil Kapoor who again sails notch above the script. If background score by Sajid Wajid is appealing, Pritam disappoints with a dismal performance (probably the not-so-happening songs are his 'original' compositions).

Maverick Verdict: If a senseless, baseless, brainless and spineless comic caper deserves your weekend evening, then go give it a dekko. No-Problem neither entertains to the fullest, nor it bores you to death; so make your 'pick' and choose/discard this 'flick'. In any case you would STAY IN PEACE jibing No Problem....No Problem!!!view less

Anybody watching 'No Problem' hoping to see intelligent, meaningful cinema would be simply making a fool out of himself. The trailer was indication enough, and the movie doesn't deliver otherwise. This is pure slapstick, with shrieking actors, unbelievably stupid (somewhat funny) situations and women in itsy bitsy roles & costumes.

The story ? Sample this - Paresh Rawal lives in a 'gaon' in South Africa and runs a bank (and has a diverse family for added measure - a gori biwi, and kids of all races and ethnicities), Anil Kapoor seems to be the only Police Inspector in Durban saddled with a bumbling constable (Suresh Menon) and a half-mad wife (Sushmita Sen), and Kangna Ranaut thinks that she is the most beautiful woman in the world. I am already laughing out loud at the absolutely zany imagination of the story writer. This is as ridiculous a script as it can get, and I could simply not follow the rest of the story. The ultimate coming-of-age dialogue comes when Anil Kapoor asks Shakti Kapoor, "Aap itna dheere kyun bol rahe hain? (Why are you speaking so slowly ?)" and he replies, "Beta chillane ka koi faayda to hua nahee, meri tabiyat aur kharab hogayi (shrieking didnt help matters, and I fell sick too)". Pity this revelation happens at the fag end of the second half.

The laughs ? They do come in heavy doses, but mostly at the antics of actors who are never credited on the posters - like Vijay Raaz, the chronic suicider, or child artiste Saloni Daini(one stand up comedian who can give Russell Peters a run for his money) whose presence itself makes you smile (even though she doesn't get one half-decent dialogue in the movie), or the talking Gorilla. Why did they line up half a dozen actors then? Probably because when people ask, "Hero Kaun hai?" then you might tell them, ki Sanju baba hain, Suniel shetty hai. And once they have paid for their ticket, entertain them by offering the side dishes. Even Neetu Chandra is much better and more believable as the gangster's moll & the Gorilla's muse than Kangna Ranaut as a girl who falls for Akshaye Khanna (:O) and Sush as a murderous wife.

As a whole, the movie does succeed in proving to be a mindless caper wanting to elicit some laughs. Intending to be a sequel to NO Entry? Definitely not - that one was much, much better even in its slapstick. Even the songs in that one were hummable, a big ask for this genre. Won't even talk about the songs in No Problem. And watching Sushmita Sen try to kill Anil Kapoor with dangerous looks, knives and bandooks is not my idea of comedy either.

Paisa wasool if you watch it for under Rs 100 (its not all bad!) - after that its totally paisa wasted (Its not very good either :-D).

Synopsis: Marcos (Suniel Shetty) and his gang of thieves, Sofia (Neetu Chandra, Garam Masala, Rann), Khokha (Ranjeet, Vishwanath), Mukesh Tiwari (lets just call him the electric man with the weird beard), Vishwajeet Pradhan (the spoof on snuff film making gangsters, hopefully) and co. steal diamonds worth millions and are having problems with their partner in crime, the local minister. Yash Ambani (Sanjay Dutt) & Raj Ambani (Akshaye Khanna) are small time conmen who trick the bank manager of Robin Village, (where everyone speaks only Hindi, including the locals) Zandulal (Paresh Rawal) and scoot off with the money to Durban, leaving behind their bag, which leads Zandulal to follow them in order to rid himself of this problem. In Durban, Sr. Inspector Arjun Singh (Anil Kapoor) is a cop in the league of Inspector Clouseau, only as you would realize in the film, Clouseau had a method behind his madness, which led to a conclusive end for him, unlike our very own bumbling, Arjun Singh. Arjun also happens to be the son-in-law of the local police commissioner (Shakti Kapoor), who has problems of his own. The commissioners daughter Kajal (Sushmita Sen) suffers from a split personality, again because of her problem with Arjuns problems. Arjun has a assistant Kumar (Suresh Menon), whose problem is that he can neither get rid of his stupid boss, nor drill any sense into him, even when he wants to (the lie detector scene or the following Zandulal with the transmitter sequence). Kajal has a sister Sanjana (Kangana Ranaut), whose problem is that she thinks she is so beautiful that she will never find a suitable boy for herself. Raj falls in love with Sanjana, wants to marry her, but not before he resolves Zandus problem, for which Yash plans to rob the ministers house. A robbery which leads to graver problems for all concerned. Ladies and Gentlemen, presenting Anees Bazmees No Problem. Coming back after the 2008 Singh is Kingg, this could easily be in contention for Anees best.

Akshaye Khanna: easily one of the best actors we have currently, Akshaye proves once again that there is so much one can convey onscreen without uttering a single word. He steals the show many a times in the film by just his facial expressions. The sequence where Sanjay & he have gone with his marriage proposal to Shaktis house is one such example. Also, the entire charade of him crossdressing will have you in splits.

Sushmita Sen: as the wife with a split personality disorder is excellent. Everytime she shifts from Kajal to Kamini, her alter ego, she makes you wonder how will she torture Anil next. The sole purpose of her alter ego is to kill Anil Kapoor. Be it the kheer feeding, the axe or the gun toting, voice altering Kajal, she raises only one question in your mind, where has this woman been? Not only does she look gorgeous, she is class personified.

Sanjay Dutt : Sanjay brings his immaculate comic timing, honed with years of working with the erstwhile master of comedies, David Dhawan, to perfect use. There is a certain amount of dignity that he brings to the shenanigans which are going around him. Be it his flirting with Sofia or his parental yearning towards his Pappa Paresh. It is a pleasure to watch him onscreen.

Paresh Rawal: Ever the master of playing a pivotal character in inane comedies and bringing the house down with his performance. Paresh in No Problem, reminds you clearly of the Paresh in Hera Pheri. Just like Baburao, was the star of that film, Zandulal is the star of No Problem. His breakdown in front of the village, his squabbling neighbor act, or the imposition of him as the Boss and the consequences thereafter. It is a treat to see him on screen.

Anil Kapoor: Off late Anil has become very selective as an actor, especially with his overseas commitments. So when you see him don the role of a producer and take on the role of Arjun Singh, you know you are not going to be disappointed. Anil has given what one would say is a khul ke performance. He is so comfortable doing whatever Bazmee has told him to do. Havent seen such a performance by him since Deewana Mastana and Biwi No.1. In every mindless sequence he breathes so much energy, be it the shootout at the mall, the trailing of Zandulal, the proposal or the climax.

Anees Bazmees Direction: With No Entry, Bazmee first tried his hands at a multi star cast film. He then followed it well with Welcome. Although Singh is Kingg was more Akshay centric, Bazmee takes one step further by getting an ensemble star cast and doing justice to each and everyone of them. Every single character has his / her moments which leave an impact. Be it Neetu Chandras stylish fights, Ranjeets rendition of the haunting Once in a Blue moon, Paresh, Akshaye, Shakti, Anil, Sanjay or Sushmita. Even Suresh Menon as the envious sidekick leaves his mark. Bazmee has never ever focused on a strong script in all his movies, hence he relies heavily on his screenplay with one after another loud gag which leaves you in splits on repeated occasions. Although at a length of 138 minutes, one does not feel bored ever.

Y 4: 4 reasons why you will not enjoy No Problem

Script: or the sheer lack of it! The film moves with the premise that certain things are a given. Why and how does Mukesh Tiwari generate electricity? Why does Marcos the dreaded gangster trust the minister repeatedly inspite of knowing he is a cheat? How do the diamonds get stolen from the ministers safe? Why does Vijay Raaz want to commit suicide? Why does the climax seem inspired by Welcome, wherein everyone is under one roof (literally) trying balancing act for survival?

Kangana Ranaut: why was she ignored in terms of a make up artiste and dress designer? It seems besides these 2, Bazmee even ignored her in terms of the acting department. Very bad performance.

Music: Nowadays for all movies to do reasonably well, especially romcoms and comedies, a good music score is a must. Whereas for this film it seems Pritdam da did nothing. There is not much scope for music in this film, hence the only 2 tracks you will come back humming will be the title track Babe Di Kripa and the climax number Mast Panjabi, sure to rock the dance floors in the forthcoming party season.

Its ironic that a film titled No Problem, is riddled with so many, that just jotting them down could be a film schools summer assignment.

Not that one expected a classic form Anees Bazmee, whose last film rooster has Singh is King and Welcome to its (dis)credit. But at least those films gave us a laugh here, a tickle there, and some great music. No Problem has nothing to offer from the word go.

The film is confused. A comedy of errors, a heist adventure, an action comedy ala the Golmaal series, it tries to be all of these, ending up being a total washout.

The film has an apology for a storyline. Akshaye Khanna and Sanjay Dutt are crooks after diamonds, and they are being chased by gangster Suniel Shetty, and cop Anil Kapoor. The ladies are consistently hamming it up, and have nothing by way of a role in the film. Kangana and Neetu Chandra seem to be in the midst of Whose the worst dressed actress ever reality show, while Sushmita, playing a schizophrenic wife, is a total eye sore. The music is jarring to be polite to the composers, while acting is uniformly unbearable.

Pathetic pedestrian PJs for jokes, juvenile slapstick in the name of comedy, and insensitive bordering on racist dialogues (that I cant fathom who would find funny) make up for most of the films viewing length. It would have worked at least if there were some saleable stars in it. The entire star cast save for Kangana are have-been-still-not-retiring aged folks, while Kangana definitely fits better in a performance based character role than a mindless bimbo act.

In the past few years, I have come to expect the least from a bollywood comedy. But No Problem takes the charade a bit too far. Chuck it, if you want to retain your faith in Bollywoods ability to entertain.
