This is film which keeps you engaged throughout the duration. Essentially it is a thriller and most of the action takes place at night. In a way it is a film inside a film. Amy Adams is a well to do married lady who gets a manuscript called " Nocturnal animals" from her ex husband with whom she has not spoken for the last 19 years. The story is played out on film as Amy reads the manuscript through the night.
The story begins when Jake Gallynhall along with his wife and teenaged daughter start in their car on a long road journey at night. On the way three hoodlums in a car accost them and force them to stop their car. They then harass the family and finally drive away with the mother and daughter. Jake is separately dropped off in the darkness in some other area.
Jake manages to report to the law and the investigation begins. It is then discovered that both mother and daughter were raped and killed in a brutal manner. The detective investigating the case apprehends one of the suspects who then leads them to the other suspect.Jake identifies both men but the legal authorities ( DA) say they cannot pursue the case for lack of corroboration since there is no witness. The detective and Jake then decide to ensure justice is done by eliminating the hoodlums. In the encounters Jake also loses his life.
The director can be credited for making a taut and suspenseful film which keeps you riveted throughout. The action at night is well photographed .Jake Gallynhall is good as usual and Amy Adams fills the bill.
Lovers of thrillers will like this film.
