Verdict

“Oru Oorla Rendu Raja tries too hard to deliver a social message through its poorly written screenplay. Priya Anand's commendable performance, Soori's good comic timing and a few hummable songs add mild freshness to this otherwise old story. One Time Watch”

Oru Oorula Rendu Raja is directed by R.Kannan, who also jointly produced along with Sheraphin Raya Xavier and released by S. Michael Rayappan. After a couple of disasters like Vanthaan Vendraan & Settai, Director R.Kannan should have actually bounced back with a strong script rather then this rotten old predictable commercial flick.

Oru Oorula Rendu Raja is all about how two friends meet a pretty girl in a sudden train travel and takes her problem into their hands and solve it. Azhagu (Vimal) and Mic (Soori) suddenly board a train to Chennai. In their hopeless travel, they meet Priya (Priya Anand) and Azhagu fails for her. Meanwhile, Priya was attacked by a group and Azhagu saves her which also lets Priya to open her flash back to showcase what are the problems faced by employees of a big steel industry and how she has filed a legal case against the industry head (Nasser). Once Azhagu came to know this, he helps Priya and gets the issue solved at the end.

As a story line, it has got some good social intent and sensitive untold issue but the screenplay treatment given to this story line was its biggest disaster. With lights of working under Ace director Mani Rathinam, director R.Kannan should have paid more attention to his script. Still Jayam Kondaan and Kanden Kadhalai are fresh, so it’s big time for R.Kannan to bounce back soon to save his direction career as well as his new production house.

Vimal, Soori, Priya Anand did their part well as portrayed D.Imman’s music doesn’t make any interest in songs as well as in BGM. Usually in a commercial flick, songs will be an added element and stops the flow of the film, but for a change in this film, songs are showcased more rather than scenes. During second half, audience easily can tell it’s time for a song. Terrible song placement makes it even more boring film. Oru Oorula Rendu Raja’s biggest and only positive point is the film is running just around 120 minutes!!!
