If you laughed your heart out in Race (2008) with the constant twist and turns being thrown at you then you would be waiting with an evil wicked grin to welcome Race 2. sorry to burst your bubble but your evil grin will turn into frustrating maniac laughter if you boldly venture into this film.

Saif Ali Khan and Anil Kapoor are the only characters that continue from the earlier film. This time Saif is in the' race' to destroy John Abraham. Deepika Padukone is John's half sister, Jacqueline Fernandes is John's love interest and Ameesha Patel replaces Sameera Reddy as the dumb and forever horny Anil Kapoor's assistant.

I don't think you ought to know what the plot is because it doesn't matter. what matters is, are the twists being thrown at you at a frantic speed? and are they good enough?. the answer is NO!

it appears that Abbas Mustan first write a list of twists and turns and then weave a story around it. Saif Ali Khan does his "look i'm so cool" act yet again. something which he has now mastered it. He is the only one who gets all the whistles. all the girls are decked up with the flashiest costumes but only Deepika and the locations manage to provide the much needed eye candy .

Abbas Mustan's last years gift Players was fun and highly entertaining. this one takes itself too seriously.

Word of mouth - Race 2 will twist your brain cells and leave you all wound up.

Let me set something straight, I enjoyed Race (2008) but I do not think it was exquisite entertainment. Yes, it was entertaining but not the best kind. I did not have any expectations from the sequel. I imagined I will just get more of the same stuff and that I did. Enjoyable songs, good-looking people, several foreign locations and a truckload of twists. Did I mention a story? No. Well, to be honest Race had a preposterous story but it worked. Why it worked in terms of entertainment is because it kept trying to outguess the audience. (Trying to) They succeeded because the level of being preposterous was maintained. It never became completely ridiculous.

Race 2 comes with a tagline on the posters which goes “Betrayal is survival”. As far as the filmmaker's intentions are concerned, I survived through Race 2. What does that say about betrayal? I think I was. It's the same as a blurred middle finger. (If you've seen the film, you know what I mean)

I don't want to get into the plot of the film. It doesn't matter. All you need to know is that there will be several twists and turns for absolutely no reason except to have something going on while all actors showcase what they think they are good at. (Probably what they think the audience thinks they are good at.) Saif looks cool, Deepika looks hot, John shows off his body and Jacqueline breathes heavily.

Oh but wait, have I told you I was having fun through most of this buffoonery? A card game where they can magically change the number and suit of the card is absolutely outrageous! Most of the twists could be guessed and I was having fun trying to guess them and mostly succeeding. (Also probably because I knew I won't feel stupid later.)

Since I didn't exactly expect something better than the first film, I was perfectly placed to not have my head exploding by the end of it. No, it doesn't match up to the first but who cares?! I certainly don't. I'm not going to watch this movie again, just like I've never seen the first one again. I was simply enjoying what it was offering, laughing at the asinine dialogues and sometimes laughing at the unintentional humor. I was even laughing at Anil Kapoor's antics. Yes, he gets a cheap role but come on, a dick joke which ends with “Iska jawab banana padega”? Also - "Cherry, I don't have time to pop your cherry". Delivered by Mr. Kapoor it sounds stupid, yes, but not in bad taste at all. (Did I just put in a sick pun over there? I apologize)

There are only two problems I had with this film - the visual effects from 1998 and the last half hour. If my memory serves me right, the final “race” in Race was about two brothers outwitting each other. Here we don't really care why the events are unfolding or whether we even want to root for either of the characters. Who do I blame for this? Yes, the writing for sure. But then there is also John Abraham. He gives a bad name to acting. Even in a film where you don't have to act much or act at all, he fails.

I mentioned at the beginning of my review that Race, while it was preposterous, never became ridiculous. Race 2 maintains the entertainment (preposterous still, oh yes!) but only during two hours of its runtime. The final half hour is a complete cop-out. Mostly because, well, there in NO conclusion. A shoddy set-up for Race 3, which gives you a sour after-taste. Race 2 succeeds in becoming ridiculous as it struggles to find a resolution to the story. Everything before that is enjoyable, a guilty pleasure.

At some point or the other, every character in Race two utters these lines " main sab kuch pehle se jaanta hu". And fact is that every character seems to know everything from the start and is yet playing games, or as they say in the next line, run the Race. The only gltich is somehow the audience is the only one not knowing what exactly is happening on screen. That aint a problem though, since not once does Race two bore you.

Ranveer, aka Saif, is a conman from the first instalment of Race, who is out to avenge his lady's death from new con in town Armaan aka John. Deepika, Jaqueline, Ameesha are in the scenes to show cleavage, midrifs, legs, lipsticked pouts, while Anil Kapoor, umm, well i don't know why he is in this one, since his RD has apparently left police-giri and is now a club owner. That about sums up the plot for Race two, which makes an outrageoulsy flimsy story into a good two hours 20 minutes affair,.

Race 2 is slick, severly glamorous and sufficiently fast paced to prevent yawning. There are some decent songs, inconsequential and badly placed yet decent compositions, that interspread a series of car chases, bonb explosions and foot chases. When the actors get time from revving up those cars at top speed, they strip to the bare minimum and present a beef and skin buffet that is delightful. When they are doing neither of this, they pretend to act.

Saif has by now perfected the art of looking and sounding uber cool. His suits impress, his daadi and bas voice is sauve letting him scrape through unhurt, John can't act to save his life, his abs make up for what his face cannot. Deepika is pretty good as the femme fatal, sexy and sizzling hot while Jaqueline makes sure to add to the heat especially in her fencing sequence with Saif. Ameesha patel on the other hand seems like extrapolated from a wanna be glam movie from a time centuries ago- her pink and blue barbie girl act is grating. Anil is competent despite being saddled with lines like "i do not want to pop your cherry now:".

Director Duo Abbas Mustan pulled of a series of twists and turns that made Race a bad yet undeniably rivetting film. Race 2 lacks the innovaton of the first one, its twists one can smell from a mile away, yet makes up for it in ambition and scale. Action sequences are amazingly well done, while the beauty on display is impressinve.

There is a lot of logic dfying nonsense in Race 2- the heros escaping from a plane in a car held by four parachutes, two hot actors, John and Deepika being cast as a brother sister duo, innane dialogues and some really corny ones too- yet, what it also has is the ability to keep you glued. With no pretensions of being intellectual, it promises some unabashed eye candy and it does. Watch it and forget it, till the next in the series arrives.

It looked like the screenplay was written by a writer serving his notice period in an IT company. With all its fancy cars and big budget sequences, this movie fails stupendously due to a inconsistent and foolish story, which introduces twists with such periodicity that none of them make you gasp. And combined with stunts that are so effin' hilarious, you just want to laugh your guts out through a supposed thriller. Fancy this - a car blasts through an airplane in flight as if it was an egg shell, and lands on the ground courtesy 4 balloons tied like parachutes. And the hero and the heroine are sitting pretty in the car, at a height of 35000 feet above sea level. Oxygen, anybody !!! With this film (and recalling the horror of their last one - Players), I firmly believe that Abbas Mustan have metamorphosized into 12 year old kids, because the only prominent things in this flick are ROFLstunts and boobies. If this is what we are relegated to when looking for thrillers, O lord - kill me now.

Race is a total masala movie. It has good-looking people in great clothes with some awesome lipstick colours on the women and sharp clothes (or bare torsos) on the men. The good- looking people hang around in opulent mansions and drive some super speed mean cars. It's a plastic world inhabited by Barbie's friends.

There are lots of car chases, nasty fights, romantic scenes and goodies like Jacqueline Fernandes sword fighting in a white pant suit that Saif daringly slices off. There are also total over the top devices like the sunglasses that can read cards and change the cards too that make your little heart sing with delight. Abbas Mastan aim to please and spare none of their imagination to make it happen.

The story of course is of crossing and double crossings and triple crossings till you are quite cross-eyed. But does it matter? You are surely not looking for logic while looking at Deepika's high slit gown that hides a revolver strapped to her thigh. The fact that you are here means you are not here for serious cinema.

The actors of course have a ball. Who wont? You dress up, party, lagao crazy dialogues and hang around in Turkey. They all look pretty luscious except Jacqeuline whose make up and hair makes her look sometimes like a long lost witch aunt of the Adams family.

What I did not like was the Anil Kapoor - Amisha Patel track. Though Anil Kapoor has a charm about him, it doesn't suit him when he says stuff like “Cherry, I can't pop your cherry.” All his lines are hugely sexist and vulgar and so not funny. I also did not like the songs. Boring tunes with even more boring choreography.

Race is a movie you watch leaving logic behind. You do not ask questions like “How can John need only one tiny Band aid after getting bashed to pulp by a prize fighter and have bottles smashed on his head?” Buy lots of popcorn (I won mine by the way. My seat was a lucky number!) sit back and let the fancy nonsense wash over you. If you are going to question the goings on Race is not for you.
