What happens when film crew thinks that they are on holidays and just for the heck of professionalism they should complete the movie? The result is Rascal! David Dhawan has given many blockbuster comedy movies and bagged the crown of comedy king but lately his skills of creating magic with comic genre needs some honing. Its high time that film-makers should realize that keeping veterans will not make any movie a Hit. Nowadays audience are smart enough to rate a movie on the basis of totality.
Rascals prove to be the most underdeveloped comedy by David Dhawan. Actors like Ajay Devgan and Sanjay Dutt who are known for their comic timings were just unbearable in this one. Kangna Ranaut looked ridiculous and should stick to her genre rather than trying hands on comedy films. Nothing in the movie will leave a mark and if this is what David Dhawans Diwali present to Indian Viewers then its highly disappointing.

Story is nothing different than Haseena Maan Jayegi and Deewana Mastana but with a different climax. Honestly that is also not ground breaking and movie makers should know that people dont go to watch only The Climax. The whole point is the movie engaging enough to keep viewers eyes glued to the screen till the climax and for this one the answer is a BIG NO.

Rascals will live for a long time onscreen due to poor script, worn-out gags, dull dialogues and below average performances. If comedy for your means insensibility and laughs on every stupid joke Rascals is meant for you.

YES, this is one dialogue that had me in splits.

WARNING: THIS MOVIE TOUCHES EPIC LEVELS OF RANDOMNESS AND STUPIDITY SO IF ITS SOMETHING YOU CANT HANDLE....STAY FAR FAR AWAY.

We all know what is David Dhawan's brand of cinema and he has time & again harped on the fact that he makes brainless entertainers, but this one is genuiely one of the most idiotic films that I have seen in a while.

Looking like a rehashed, sexed up version of Andaaz Apna Apna, the film is about two conmen, Chetan(SanjayD) and Bhagat(AjayD) who are both trying to woo the same rich girl(Kangna). The whole film revolves around their game of one-upsmanship and is a series of gags one after the other.

The first half actually had me in splits and has some genuinely hilarious moments. Like one scene where Sanjay Dutt wakes up with a semi-naked women next to him and tries to put on her pants in vain exclaiming, "Bhagwan please chaddi pehna do pls chaddi pehna do". The second half on the other hand is quite bland and tests your patience at times.
The music is very very bad and does nothing for the film.

The actors in the film seem to be having a ball. Sanjay Dutt is in his typical stupid element and clearly seems to be having issues with his hair as he switches between a wig and his real hair. Ajay Devgn has only task at hand...to grope Kangna Ranaut. He is on her through 60% of the film and more than acting seems to be having fun. Kangna looks sizzling but struggles with her comic timing.

Director David Dhawan has gone all out with his genre and doesn't quite serve anything close to his classics. Its a film that I came out feeling decently entertained. He really needs to put in a little more effort in terms of the story department.

To sum it up, I went in with not zero but negative expectations and was out getting my moneys worth. Let me be clear...this is NOT A GOOD FILM, but if you are in the required state of mind, it can surely make you crack up. It could leave you braindead at the end. Yeah it does.

WATCH IT ONLY AT YOUR OWN PERIL AND WITH THE RIGHT COMPANY TO ENJOY IT.

Many would remember "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" starring Steve Martin and Michael Caine, a light con-comedy typical of the late eighties-early nineties. It was adapted by Rakesh Roshan and though not as funny and with a good dosage of melodramatic Bollywood, Anupam Kher, Madhuri Dixit and Anil Kapoor did a fair job remaking the film. David Dhawan attempts another version but fails miserably.

The reasons are many but the primary being that this kind of forced comedy just does not work in today's times. The rhyming dialogues, the double entendres and a script that really borders on the ridiculous; its a mishmash of all that's wrong with Indian cinema today. Topped with that is a jaded looking Sanjay Dutt, a barely amusing Ajay Devgn (he should really not work in comedies) and a screeching Kangana Ranaut who's only job is to be felt up by the leading pair of rascals who look old enough to be her dads.

I have something against frivolous comedies where filmmakers just load up the film with insider jokes and corny banter. This year has seen one too many and here's another one joining the list. As Satish Kaushik says in the film "yahan earth pe unarth ho raha hai", it truly represents my feelings.

Thankfully its not a long movie but you can feel your youth dying by the time the last con is played. Unfortunately the joke's on you. Sucker!!!

There is nothing about Rascals that is worth recommending to the audience except to say that it is a typical David Dhawan film made in one of his bad hair days and in that lies the basic gist of Rascals the latest presentation from the house of David Dhawan.

So until and unless you may happen to be an absolute die-hard fan of DD and believe me he actually has a huge fan following littered across the globe who insist on rolling in the aisle at his lame jokes and watching every frame over and over again then even wild horses woould and should not drag you anywhere near a theater screening Rascals.

Now one can well understand how an actor thinks and feels and what makes him sign any and every film that lands on his lap.After all, which jerk can possibly resist the crores that come with every film but what makes me truly ponder which actor turned producer could possibly be such a jerk as to invest his hard earned money into a David Dhawan film that too a lame one like Rascals. But quite apparently Sunju Baba one of the two Rascals in this film felt that he had earned several crores from David Dhawan films in the past so now that he was turning a producer, he owed it to David to sign him as the director of his film hoping the magic would rub off and he could take a few more buckets of cash home.

Alas that does not seem to have happened because even by David Dhawan's pedestrian standards
Rascals is pretty miserable so you can well imagine how pathetic the film has actually shaped up. Any wonder then that even a small budget Dia Mirza-Zayed Khan LoveBreakups Zindagi seemed like a classic in comparison in spite of the A ranking star cast that Rascals boasts of and yet it was outrightly rejected by the audience.

But one thing must be said about David Dhawan and that is he has made so many films all in the same mould that he can never be accused of copying Hollywood films. All he does is pick up his own super-hit films from the past dusts them and remakes them all over again with a different set of stars and gives the film a new title and sells it at the box-office.

So if you've seen Ankhen way back in the early 90's yes the same one that had Govinda-Chunky Pandey don't wonder what it has in common with Rascals because except for that irritating monkey which has been now replaced by Chunky Pandey virtually nothing has changed as Ankhen is remixed and repackaged as Rascals with a new cast.

So what is Rascals about well for one it is about two con guys who make a living fooling the world with their juvenile capers that would not even amuse a kid leave aside a demented adult. It is also about David Dhawan trying to con the audience into believing that this time around he has made an original laugh riot or else how would a street smart Sanju Baba be convinced to not only leave his fee but actually cough up some of his own cash for this project?

The film revolves around Sunjay Dutt and Ajay Devgn in the lead roles as they both vie for the attention of Kangana Ranaut and Lisa Hayden painting Bangkok all shades of red until Anthony the local gangster played by Arjun Rampal gets after them to beat the hell out of them coz while one conned him of his money the other conned him of his brand new Merc and thus begins the wild goose chase from Mumbai to Bangkok and back.

What one is eagerly waiting to see is if this time around David Dhawan has actually bitten of more than he can possibly chew as he names his lead Rascals Chetan Chauhan and also lampoons Chetan Bhagat but while either or both of them may have to just laugh it off the Indian Navy may not take the digs made at them with just a pinch of salt. What is sad is that a senior and rather well respected actor of the stature of Ajay Devgn has been used to take undignified pot-shots that border on sheer vulgarity at the pride and respect of the Indian Navy. Something that is absolutely uncalled for and simply not justified just for the sake of a few lousy laughs. What is even more pathetic is that even the blind are not spared as they're used to raise a few laughs. This sure is not slapstick comedy and only a sick person can try and pass it off as situational comedy. Of course David Dhawan would beg to differ.

After every David Dhawan film one is forced to ponder if he can possibly get any worse and yet the next film he come up with is certainly several notches below his last one thus amply proving that his worst is yet to come. Can we hide our heads in shame and say Amen to that?
