Viswaroopam release date from Jan. 11 postponed to Jan. 25

Bowing to the pressure of theatre owners, megastar Kamal Haasan has reportedly agreed to release his much-awaited filmViswaroopamfirst in theatres on January 25 then on DTH. According to sources, the decision was taken after an extensive meeting of DTH companies, distributors and Tamil Nadu Film Theatres Owners' Association, producer-director Keyar and others at Kamal Hassan's office here.

Association General Secretary R Pannerselvam informed that the film would hit theatres first but the day and date on when it would be released had not been finalized.He added, "The day and date when it is expected to be released will be decided at the second round of meeting tomorrow". It was reported that the distributors are demanding thatViswaroopamshould be released on DTH two weeks after the theatrical release, whereas DTH companies also want the same day release of the film.

In the meantime, Airtel CEO DTH and Media, Shashi Arora has informed that they have stopped bookings for the premiere, which was earlier scheduled for January 10. "In line with the postponement of the release date of the movieVishwaroopam(Tamil and Telugu)/Viswaroop(Hindi) across theatres on DTH platform by Rajkamal films, we have stopped taking bookings for the movie premiere," he said.
