Land Grabbing is a burning issue. Its happening all over India. We read it in papers but on the large screen we have not seen this issue being talked about so Sahi Dhande Galat Bande comes at the right time.
Picture kya hai? - 4 guys Rajbir (Parvin Dabas), Sexy (Vansh Bhardwaj), Ambani (Ashish Nayyar) & Doctor (Kuldeep Ruhil) work for a local don Fauji (Sharat Saxena). One job connects their life with the land grabbing issue that their village is facing. How the issue becomes part of their life and how they tackle it is what this film is about.
Does it work for me? YES & NO
Why? Parvin Dabas has written an interesting script mixing the story of 4 guys with an issue so it does not end up as a boring issue based film but because of this merging of two stories it ends up neither here nor there. Though the actors perform well their characters didnt reach out to me enough to care about them. Wish the characters were quirky. A film like this required them to be quirky.
One aspect which messed up the viewing experience was the DI (Digital Intermediate). The version I saw was a digital 2K version in which there were grains throughout the film. The music of the film is fantastic and has been used at the right moments in the film. My personal favorite is the song lalaji which is brilliantly sung and very well edited by Chin2 Singh. Wish the film had more moments like these. The pre climax fight sequence gets into a different style of film making. Even though it is shot and cut well it looks like it belongs to a different film. As a first time director Parvin Dabas makes an earnest debut with a pure intention to tell a story well but the end result does not work out well. Still, after having watched Not a Love Story & having no interest in Chatur Singh Two Star I would say this is the Hindi movie to watch this weekend.
Final few words: Sahi Dhande Galat Bande is well intentioned but the writing doesnt go all out in juicing the concept it has. It will find its audience on TV and home video.
