The only positive that I can bestow upon ‘Scary Movie 5’ is the fact that it’s better than this year’s other horror movie spoof ‘A Haunted House’, which was an abomination to say the least. The fifth movie in the franchise picks a bunch of other movies to spoof and goes at it with the most vile and demeaning fashion possible, packed with celebrity cameos nonetheless. So the basic structure of the film combines stories from ‘Mama’ and ‘Paranormal Activity’ and then adds elements from Insidious, Inception, Black Swan and Rise of the Planet of the apes. People are kicked in the nether regions, poop is splayed all over the place and other shit goes down like there’s no tomorrow, and obviously no taste or a story to go along with it.
Charlie Sheen spoofs his real life shenanigans yet again and so does Lindsay Lohan but most of the rest of the crew is at hand to simply to partake in one slapstick gag after another. I honestly can’t fathom the point of these movies, do people actually enjoy them? Haven’t any of the makers watched ‘Airplane’ or ‘Blazzing Saddles’ or even ‘Hot Shots’? Who enjoys this kind of humour which doesn’t even try to be funny? Every second development in the script is a ruse to shoehorn another movie and poke fun at the concept or characters by blasting the whole idea as nothing more than an unfunny pop-cultural reference. Oh he has a dream, let’s put in Inception, the house has cameras, let’s put in Paranormal Activity, enough I say!
This is the kind of utter trash that can only be enjoyed by someone at a below par intelligence and all the best to you if you plan on deriving any sort of joy from the movie.view less
