Take a look at this: Sivaji Ganesan’s grandson. Prabhu’s son.

Vikram Prabhu need not fall back on his family’s legacy to move forward. With 3 successful films behind him, and another film which has just hit the screens, he has walked the distance.

Sigaram Thodu starts off with a father’s love for his son and a son’s promise to his father. Vikram Prabhu does not want to be a police officer since he has seen his mother die and his father (Sathyaraj) suffer. But Sathyaraj clearly wants his son to shoulder his dream. Though Vikram Prabhu’s idea of working in a Bank is a stone’s throw away, his route changes along the way, and soon dons the police uniform. Proportionately gelled with this plot is ATM robberies. Thumbs-up to technology, everything’s in our fingertips; money, men, and whatever money can buy. I got my ATM card a month ago, and after having watched this movie, I’m pretty satisfied that changing my PIN every week will still not calm me down.

Gaurav’s screenplay needed an edit. Those songs and comedy pieces are a bore. The culprits are revealed in the beginning scene itself, so, what remains is how the law catches up with them. Due to ill lighting in the climax fight sequence I couldn’t see if Vikram was bashing up the bearded culprit or he was being beaten up for a second or two. The bond the two culprits share in Sigaram Thodu can be traced back to the relationship shared by characters Amudhan (Daniel Balaji) and Ilamaran (Salim Baig) in Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu. They plan and execute things together.

Then what about Monal Gajjar? She’s a mannequin travelling along with Vikram Prabhu and the team.

Minus the boring parts, the film gets its target right.
