This much over-hyped film, attributed to Akshay's string of successes and this being a comedy film, expected a huge opening and the film doesn't disappoint. The film, catering to the masses, is a complete masala flick.
Happy Singh (Akshay Kumar) is a very irritating person in his hometown (pind, village). One of the village's boy Lakhan Singh (Sonu Sood) ran and became gangster. He is accompanied by Julie (Neha Dhupia), Mika (Jaaved Jaffrey), Pankaj Udaas (Yashpal Sharma).
The pind de chadde's, the village's bachelor, ploy to throw him out of the village by sentimentalising him on the pretext of Lucky's(Lakhan) father's heart attack and sending him to Australia to get Lucky back. He takes along Rangeela(Om Puri), who leaded his befooling operation.
Lucky accidentally (some tickets exchange) lands to Egypt, where he meets Sonia (Katrina Kaif) and fells for her. Then he moves to his orginally destination Australia. there she meets Kiron Kher, when he is completely penniless and she helps him with food and shelter. Happy reaches to Lakhan's place and asks him to leave all this illegal activities and come back to the village. Some accidents happen, and Lakhan is paralysed. He tries saying something but his clan interprets that he is ordering to make Happy the king. Meanwhile, Happy ends up knowing that Sonia is Kiron's daughter and she is returning to Australia. Sonia doesn't know that after her father's death her mother is poverty-ridden and runs a flower shop. Happy decides to give the home to Kiron and make every one as the servants of the house.
The film is wholesome entertainer. Akshay dons the turban and turns the king figuratively. His comic timing is perfect, he takes the nuances of the sikh very clearly, the accent changes perfectly and in the end it looks like the role is played effortlessly. The others dont' have much part to play, its largely and largely an Akshay's film. Katrina looks beautiful and her role ends here. Sonu sood is good in the small screen space he is been given. Javed Jaffrey, as the blind and deaf is good.
The film lacks in the second half though, after the wholesome entertainer in the first half. But the dialogues are funny, the dialogues about the Sikh Guru's were inspirational. And the film is large funny.
