First things first, it's fine to take a film about Sri Lankan Tamil refugee but there should be at least some level of research because only then, one can make fine cinema. Mani Ratnam's Kannathil Muthamittal, Santhosh Sivan's Inam and Bala's Nandha are examples for how to make films on Sri Lankan Tamils while Sivappu is for filmmakers to know how to not make films in general and also, how one should not play with the emotions of Sri Lankan Tamils just for the sake of adding the melodramatic factor.

I won’t complain the actors, they have really performed well. I won’t blame the cinematographer as he has brilliantly captured the emotions of the actors. I won’t criticize the work of music composer, NR Raghunanthan as the songs are good and the background score is quite laudable. But I’ve no other way but to blame the film’s director Sathya Siva for providing a boring film without proper story line and a negative climax, which is not needed for the movie.

Why every film deal with Sri Lankan Tamils ends with negative climax? Look at world cinema, they are giving positive vibes in films which deal about slavery, why can’t we make one here in Tamil cinema?

Ah, forget it! People here believe that award and acclaim will come only for negative ending. Oh yes, my piece of advice for you guys is watch Sivappu at your own risk.
