"One Move can make the whole generation feel like ELVIS..." Alright before you all start expecting something absolutely astonishing out of the movie; let me tell you its like old story in new bodies as far as the storytelling goes. Moose (Adam G. Sevani, noodle hair guy in Step Up 2) is one of the main leads in this one and is an NYU undergrad. His parents want him to become an engineer and he aspires to be a world class dancer. On his very first day of college he accidentally ends up challenging the Samurais (cut-throat street dancers) and catches the attention of a wannabe film-maker Luke (Rick Malambri). Luke A dancer himself, mortgaged his only property, shabby warehouse; which is a refuge for budding street dancers as well as for his own group called House of Pirates. In order to pay off the debts and keep the Pirates going they need to win "World Jam- the biggest dance battle", where the best street dancers from all over the world participate. To achieve this, Luke keeps looking for new talent and introduces them to his other group members. Moose becomes a part of Pirates when Luke catches him showing his moves to the Samurais (All time rivals of Pirates).

Now lets jump straight to the most stunning part of the movie i.e. DANCE. Yes, thats the only reason for which one should watch this movie. Jon M. Chu gives a treat to your eyes with some electrifying dance moves and this time with a touch of 3rd Dimension. Every time the dancers perform onscreen, you will just have one word for them WOWWWW!!!! The energetic hip-hop tunes, spectacular CHOREOGRAPHY, outstanding cinematography and brilliant use of 3D will keep you glued to your chairs. "The best ones are the two-open air dance sequences especially the one with Moose and Camille (Alyson Stoner from step up) on an old time classic by Fred Astaire "I Won't Dance" done in a single take, is just breath-taking".

Step Up 3 has got an outstanding bunch of street dancers, who have done the most spectacular job. They will actually make you say that "Boy! These guys have got some moves..." So this time, the goodie bag carries Vlad (Chad Smith), an amazing robotic dancer; Natalie (Sharni Vinson), a mysterious street dancer, who is a blend of style and elegance & The Santiago Twin brothers (Martin and Facundo Lombard), who are just stunning during World Dance Jam Session. They all have performed their dance sequences with so much precision and finesse that it makes up for every other flaw in the movie. You will see them Locking, Popping, Krumping, B- boying, Turfing, Jookin and what not. All this combined cutting-edge 3D technology is just mesmerizing especially that section where Moose shows his moves on the stage flooded with water.

Honestly, every dance sequence will get etched on your mind forever! The final dance battle between Pirates and Samurai will just blow your brains off. Movie-makers knew that the script is just lame so in order to grasp your attention till the end; they took care of every other thing from props, to costumes, to lights, to locations. Have to say, the idea of using 3D medium for Step Up this time was a stroke of genius. Despite of predictable script, bland narration and weak acting, Step-Up 3D will emerge as a winner due to its remarkable dance sequences and thats the exact purpose for which Step Up series are made.

Final Verdict: If you thought that you saw it all in Step Up 2 then you need to sit back n rethink!!! Coz Step Up 3 will sweep you off your feet!!!

One more li'l piece of advice please dont leave the theatre as soon the movie gets over as Jon M. Chu will woo you with his last penalty shoot-out.

Lets make one thing clear. The thrid installment of Step Up is purely made for dance lovers. But this time around it has an additional dimension to it (literally), than the previous 2 versions. Initially I had my inhibitions about why this movie was made in 3D but 30 minutes into the movie I realized that the dances seemed a lot better in 3D and it was visually stunning.

Story wise there is no new angle to Step Up 3D. Theres the same old dance competition. The same old cliched rival dance groups. One group having good hearted souls and the other shown to be mean spirits. Both can burn the dance floors though. A little bit of twists and turns in the plot. A pinch of betrayal with a couple of love stories brewing in the background. All of this is bound together by some fantastic dancing scenes. Really some of the sequences were awe inspiring.

Time and again during the movie I was finding uncanny similarities to a totally ignored Hindi flick by the name of 'Fast Forward' which came and went past the box office faster than the speed of light. But then my friend pointed out that most dance related movies have the same story.

Amongst the lead actors, Adam Sevani as Moose and Sharni Vinson as Natalie were awesome in their dance sequences. The rest of the dancing troop was mind blowing too. Most of them were from the hit series 'So You think You can Dance'.

The direction by Jon Chu was crisp and it was a bold move to make this movie in 3D. It could have either bombed totally or helped in recovering the costs. In this case it has surely done the latter. A special mention for the end credits. I thought it was totally jaw dropping.

Rating: Catch it in 3D while its in theatres. Thats the only novel aspect to it other than the dances. view less

Internal bias disclaimer: I love all dance movies indiscriminately

This movie is apparently the third of a trilogy but only the first one I have seen about a set of people who are passionate about dance and their efforts to save their studio that also serves as their home. They can do that only if they win the large amount of prize money promised to the winner of the World Jam championship, world meaning predictably only the city of NY.

I cant say I know much about modern dance but it is sheer joy to see these perfect bodies gyrate contort twist and jump in perfect rhythm to hip hop sort of music(that too I dont know anything about). The movements are fluid and seamless and I found myself rooting and cheering for the Pirates team. There are also a couple of good dialogues and a great scene on a rooftop where the drinks that the hero and heroine are holding go streaming into the sky.

The story also was quite ok containing elements of romance and teenage conflict between ones passion and studies. The characters manage to do both-one of them goes on to study filmmaking once the studio is saved and the other one does a double major in engineering and dance! Quite a feat I would say. But it was surprising they did that given that I thought they would all just give up everything else to dance.

I dont see why this movie had to be in 3D though. I guess it just tries to conform to the present fad for 3D movies. The movie is primarily for the teen crowd I would think. The music appeals to that set as also the dance moves unless like me you love to watch any kind of dance. Otherwise skip it.

Disclaimer: I have not seen the first two Step Up movies so, this is 3rd one is the 1st for me.

The first in this series released in 2006 when Boogie Woogie was probably the only popular dance show that existed in India. Cut to 2010. The television is filled with dance shows and what probably people saw in the first film can be watched on the television, in the mall, in gullies, its all around you. In fact Yashraj is constantly trying to make a successful dance film for a long time. Probably they are looking at the wrong form of dance. Roller Skates ( Lafangey Parindey) are pass, B Boying is in. What a shame for a country which boast of a song and dance tradition and the only entertaining dance films which come to my mind are B. Subhashs Disco Dancer & Dance Dance.

Step Up 3d basically is a string of dance videos put together with something called a story attached to it. In fact if they had just showed the dance sequences it would have worked because the dance sequences are top class especially the final stand off & a cute version of Frank Sinatras I wont dance by Adam G. Sevani & Alyson Stoner. But still most of the dance sequence doesnt give an adrenaline rush which you feel when you see a great dance performance. Maybe the way it has been shot doesnt compliment the choreography or probably its the 3D. By the end of the film the question is, was it a dance show or a dance film? And the answer is it was a dance show and with 3D glasses it was gimmicky dance show.

Final few words: I would be rather interested in the film that Luke makes " born from the boom box". Step into this one only if you are fan of Dance India Dance.

Adding to the Step Up movie queue is yet another new flick which not only continues the tradition but also adds some super hot spices to it. Yes, this new Step up jig overdoes all the previous installments with uber-sick moves and almost every other way possible. The 3D effect makes way for an all new dimension to the dances and gives the feel that you are a part of the audience in the movie. Like its predecessors its all about dancing from the beginning till the end of the movie, and the actors are much more dancers than being actors. The plot turns out a part continuation from the previous Step Up 2 The Streets, and Moose (Sevani) joins NYU with his long time best friend Camille(Stoner). Moose teams up with Luke (Malambri) and his dance crew House of Pirates to beat the rival dance crew House of Samurais. The whole movies brings together a variety in the dances with abundant spins and amazing robot dances. This is backed by a theme of love (the couples being Luke and Natalie (Vinson) and Moose and Camille), betrayal, change of alliance, neglect and finally the union of lovers.

The dances prove that the choreographers of the film had quite a few sleepless nights and like the previous movies the director(Jon Chu) had hardly anything to do. The script is rather loose and doesnt meet up at ends, even though it provides a lot of entertainment. Music is conventional hip hop and techno with and addition of the BEP Boom Boom Pow. The candy surprise in the movie is offered by the appearance of some of the step up 2 crew joining the Pirates.
The movie is definitely not serious but provides enough treat for the eyes and senses to be watched. ;)
