Touted as the first Punjabi Super Hero movie,Super Singh is a clever cocktail of the tenets of Sikhism and fantasy .The crime angle is brought in the climax. The crux of SS is about a saffron turban, which has been passed on since the days of Guru Nanak till the present to it's right full custodians. The wearer of this turban (Sajjan Singh aka Sam) has derived super powers to rescue the believers in Sikhism and the needy when in crises. The media has highlighted the extraordinary achievements of the protagonist.Super Singh's identity is not revealed until the story demands. It so happens that this very turban has been returned to a ' godman'( Das),who turns out to be fake .The antagonist godman has evil designs. He has planned to blast the two most important gurudwaras in Amritsar. He's 'over confident' to commit the crime and overlord the religion wearing the saffron turban.Does he succeed? Where does the movie succeed? The theme of ' super powers' in one's might is successful at the box office.Humour, computerised special effects and fantasy draws in the family' crowd to the audience. With religion being brought in ,the believers view it with reverance. The protagonist uses the super powers only to serve mankind, not with an ulterior motive.Daljeet Dosanj has established himself as a 'super hero'' in regional cinema. He has a huge fan following. He has a ' larger than life role' with a good performance to show.Pawan Malhotra is devilish in his cameo.Sonam Bajwa ( as Twinkle Kaur) provides the glamour angle. The child artist ( playing Ustad ) also draws viewers attention. The problem with 'super hero'' films is that technology over powers the plot. The rationalist sulk.To be more effective the 3D format is absent in a 2D movie.Super Singh could have used his ' divine powers' to ameliorate the miseries of the farmers and punished the drug pushers in Punjab. All in all SS has a likeable script, some good one liners ( ' There's no ego in love';' when in emergency call upon a Sikh;' the sanctity of turban is a must for followers of Sukhism') and any number of ' scene stealers'. Go enjoy with your family even if the regional language is not understood by you.
