Take It Easy has a preachy premise rescued by the brilliant performance by actors who play the children of the Aggro Parents protagonists. Ironically one can say the same about the plot too. Parents who are, just like the textbooks tell us, living quite vicarously their unfulfilled dreams through their children. Raj Zutshi plays the embittered and impoverished sportsperson who wants his son to run in the Olympics now; Joy Sengupta plays a father who may be living the good life (and is married to Dippanita Sharma) but is tackling the stress of not meeting his sales targets by making sure his kid is second best to none. So off to sports camps and tuition classes we go.

It is left to the kids who (though they suffer their fair share and some of panic attacks, angst, and beatings) will show them the error of their ways. But wait before that we have to sit through watching doormat wives, grandparents who are competing with the Man In The TV to enlighten disinterested families to live the spiritual life, and Supriya Karnik who is playing the Wicked Witch of the West or Unscruplous School Owner--it is a close call. Throw in obnoxious aunts who want you to buy academic excellence certificates, weepy little sisters who covet the neighbour's doll and a supporting class of school teachers no one is taking seriously.

Confused? Well, so was I. And a movie that takes itself so seriously had to fall so flat (and comedically) on its feet in the last stretch; well that was the final nail in the audience's coffin. But, to its credit there was many a shame faced parent shuffling out of the theatre and a sarky kid in close pursuit. So yes hopefully the kids will DO OK, take it easy.

The film makers and the fate of this movie, not so.
