Verdict: War Chhod Na Yaar has an interesting idea but loses steam due to amateurish execution. One time watch for the few laughs it has to offer.

Plot: Not only is the movie a satirical take on the conditions of the armed forces of two countries engaged in a war, but it also tries to shed some light on some reasons behind one such unwanted war.

War Chhod Na Yaar Review - Sandese Aate Hain Tou Kal Ki Baat Thi, Abhi Status Update Aate HainOct 11, 2013NewsWag The Dog meets the Rang De Basanti generation. The movie requires considerable “suspension of disbelief”—the Pakistani in me will balk at our Fat Cat army well fed on the cream of our budget sweet talking the civilians for funds for their famished boys. Nice guy Sharman Joshi playing a nicer Commanding Officer seems like the kind of guy you will fall in love with over extended coffee dates at your neighbourhood cafe; not go dil dhak dhak over as he drives up towards you—Soha Ali Khan (who joins the legion of do-gooder journalists in Hindi cinema) may be a good actress some of her acting days, but here she has her work cut out as she flutters those huge bat wing eyelashes on spotting him. The movie annoys me for Hindi cinema still CANNOT do ethnicity, its canvas (and vision) does not exceed its college fest soul, the Pak-India exchanges that seem more United States-Mexico encounters than all that is not so Quiet on Pakistan’s Western Front. But for all that plagues it, there is something very endearing. The humour, surprisingly, is very Pakistani. As are the social media savvy youngsters, burgers –as we call them. Standard PTI core group. The supporting cast get their brief right. And even though the movie descends to stringing along a series of punch lines and sit com gags, it doesn’t exasperate you.   Or perhaps I am being generous for the opening sequence of the film reminded me of two other (real life) adversaries turned friends across the lines of no control. Their story didn’t have a happy ending. For all that War Chhod Na Yaar aspires towards, I hope this one's does.Aneela Zeb Babar War Chhod Na Yaar Review - Sandese Aate Hain Tou Kal Ki Baat Thi, Abhi Status Update Aate Hain Oct 11, 2013
