Reality Bites was our documentarian film growing up and now as we get ready to welcome bifocals AND bicycles in the drive--we have a brand new coming of ( middle) age film While We're Younger. Its a wonderful watch for all who thought arthritis and Hipster Envy was something that happened to other people. Along the way it takes sly digs at how a generation is choosing to BE all that we *wipes brow* thank the tech gods never have to be any more. Josh and Cornelia the forty something film maker couple believe they have had a serendipitous encounter with free thinkers Darby and Jamie. Darby makes ice cream Jamie hopes to make documentaries and they host board game evenings watch films on VHS on crappy TVs and pretty much make everything with their own hands. Josh and Cornelia are a facts googling IPod shuffling multimedia household. But gradually they realise that being middle aged may mean that at times you are misfits. Feeling uncomfortable around old friends with new babies feeling out of sorts around the spontaneity and generosity of their new friends. What are ex Xers got to do? And we still have ambitious little people and career angst to deal with. The film has this great line "HE IS NOT EVIL, HE IS YOUNG" You know what my fear is? That they are getting younger and younger.
Watch While We're Young while is still out. Such a clever little film.
