Internal Bias: I dont like alien movies (with the exception of ET)
The reason why I dont like this genre of movies is twofold-one, the aliens invariably seem to attack only America and only the brave American marine can save the world from annihilation/colonization/ subjugation etc. Secondly, the aliens are almost always stupid looking. The guys who make these movies have never been able to transcend their imagination to give us an alien which is really either scary or repelling.
Well, this movie has proven me right on both counts. A Marine platoon fights off an invasion of aliens in Los Angeles (Of course if the rest of the world packed up and emigrated to the alien planet it would not make a whit of a difference to the world). The aliens are stupid robot characters with squishy insides. A POGO channel make- it -yourself alien would be more menacing. There is the usual leader guy who has to battle past demons and the politically correct casting- a Latina, a Chinese guy, a Mexican child, a black doctor etc.
I sometimes wonder how these actors can keep a straight stuff and say stuff like- Look out for anything that looks non human. Thats like the warning they put on sleeping pills that say May cause drowsiness
The movie has a grainy feel to it and lots of fires and shooting. At one point I took off my glasses to watch it. It did not make me miss anything onscreen either.
Well, by now I think you must have got an idea of my view on the movie. Avoid unless you are a fan of this kind of stuff or a guy who will watch anything with gunsand lots of action in it.view less
