"Things that start well, doesn't end well". This is exactly what I felt after watching Yatchan. A film will work even if the 1st half is sluggish and dragging but the 2nd half holds the key. 2nd half has to be gripping and racy. As far as Yatchan, 1st half was gripping but the 2nd half was a huge let down. The screenplay lost its way and started to drag after the interval. And a villain who looks like a lunatic added to the agony.

Yatchan is about 3 people and how the destiny unites them and how each other lives gets interconnected. Swetha can foresee the future. Karthik wants to be film actor and comes to Chennai. Chinna is a local rowdy in Tuticorin and comes to Chennai to escape from a murder he committed. Their lives meet at crossroads and what happens next is the rest of the story. There is bit of political conspiracy blended into the screenplay.

As far as the writing is concerned, Vishnuvardhan took good care of the 1st half. All three stories go in parallel tracks and kept the interest factor going on. Once the curtain is raised after the interval, it becomes very predictable, except for a twist in the climax, which doesn't even matter much. Screenplay is two paced and 2nd half was dragging and uninteresting. But he managed to keep the subtle humour quotient going throughout the film, which will save his skin at end of day.

Editing was top notch in the 1st half especially when 3 stories go hand in hand. A cut here and there in the 2nd half would have made the film more gripping. BGM by Yuvan was good and the songs were quite a hit before the release itself. Cinematography was different in terms of colors and overall tone of the film. There was a warm feeling and it suited the film.

Performances wise Kreshna stood out from the rest. His expressions and chemistry with Swathi was sweet. Swathi was at her cutest best as ever, though she had not much of a scope to perform. Arya cakewalked his role as a local street rowdy. Deepa Sannidhi as Swetha lacked the power. She seemed so lifeless and didn't get the expressions right. Its like anybody could have done that role, why Deepa? Comedy track was taken care by Thambi Ramaiah and few others, which was good and kept coming at regular intervals.

Overall, Yatchan is a one time watch but if you ask me why, I don't have an answer. There is nothing inspiring or different. 1 half was good but 2nd half dragged and then somehow the director managed to finish the film with some politics and fights and comedy and love etc.
