Ajay Devgn faces legal battle over Bol Bachchan release

Creating troubles for Bollywood star Ajay Devgn, who is co-producing Rohit Shettys next film Bol Bachchan with Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd, a film distributor from Nagpur has registered a civil case against the Bollywood actor. The distributor Appu Wadhwani, owner of Hira Laxmi Amusement Private Ltd, has alleged that the producers of Bol Bachchan, starring Ajay Devgn and Abhishek Bachchan in the lead roles, had signed a deal with his company providing it the all-India theatre rights and also accepted a token amount, but now they have unilaterally went in for a deal with another company. Wadhwani has moved a local court requesting the postponement of the July 6 release of the film and cancellation of the new distribution deal. The Principal District Judge, S D Mohammad, has issued notices to the producers and asked them to give clarification on the matter. According to Wadhwanis lawyer Harish Dangre, His client had entered into an agreement with the producers for all-India theatre rights (distribution) in October 11 last year for Rs 53.20 crore and had paid a token money of Rs 1.01 crore. But the producers later entered into a fresh deal with Fox Star Studios and sent Wadhwani another copy of a new agreement with totally one-sided terms and conditions in favour of the producers. The producers then sold the rights to Fox for Rs 94 crore. Wadhwani kept seeking his money back but the producers kept him waiting for months. Finally, Wadhwani filed an application for appointment of arbitrator in April 2012 as the deal was deemed as valid on account of execution of exchange of agreements. But nothing happened. So, he moved the local court on Wednesday, seeking stoppage to release of the film and treating the earlier deal as valid till the matter is settled, he added.
