Ever since Akshay made the release date of his upcoming film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha official, speculators have come out in abundance to anticipate a high profile clash yet again. While team Shah Rukh was working its way through in silence hoping to get a vacant Independence day weekend for their upcoming film, the announcement came as a shocker.

SRK has largely been unlucky lately and hasn’t found a release slot vacant enough to grant him a solo release. Having said that, why Akshay Kumar chose to clash with him is a different story altogether. Just so we are clear, there is ABSOLUTELY NO QUESTION OF ANY ANIMOSITY between Akshay and Shah Rukh.

Not only did Hrithik’s magnum opus failed miserably at the box office, Rustom went on to make more than 100 crores at ticket counters. This gives him enough reason to come out with confidence to repeat the same feat this year around the same time.

Banking On The Hit Streak

No actor other than Salman Khan has been on such a winning hit streak as Akshay. The actor has delivered four back to back 100 crore hits (one of them coming this year itself) and is looking invincible at the moment. Even if faced with stiff competition, a commendable performance at box office is given.

Independence Day Weekend

The Friday around Independence Day is one of the most desirable release slots of the year and there is nothing wrong if he wants to cash in on it. With 15^th August being a Tuesday, it’s a virtual extended weekend that can prove to be bountiful if backed with solid numbers.

Whatever little dent a film experiences by releasing adjacent to a biggie, it makes up for it with the mileage it garners. The clash of two biggies warrants a fabulous marketing campaign and it largely helps in the theatrical business of the film.
