Akshay Gave Me The Strength To Be Self-Sufficient: Alka Hiranandani

Akshay Kumar and sister Alka Hiranandani make one helluva brother-sister duo. Every Rakshabandhan, they share videos or photos which show that they share a great camaraderie and make for a fun watch. But on Rakhi 2017, they chose a different message and it is of empowerment.

Alka shared a video, which had Akshay in a guest appearance. In the video, Alka said she is a happy-go-lucky person who gets angry only at her brother Akshay, whom she fondly calls Raju. Remembering how her father would always tell her to take Akshay along when she would be out late or attending a party, she says the Bollywood star would always refuse to accompany her.

He would instead tell her: “Apna dhyan khud rakho (take care of yourself).” Alka said she would be mad at him for saying this till she had to send her own daughter to study abroad. “I realized the value of his words when I sent my daughter to study abroad. When she asked me if ‘Everything will be okay,’ I replied, ‘Everything will be fine, just take care of your own safety’. This has been the greatest gift my brother has given to me and my daughter – The strength to be self-sufficient. Thank you, Raju. I love you. This Raksha Bandhan, do not protect your sister. Empower her.”

She also goes on to talk about how Akshay has become a father figure for her since their dad’s death 17 years ago but his message has not changed. That is when we see Akshay barging into the video and showering his sister with kisses.
