Akshay Kumar To Cheer On Team India At WWC Final

Actor Akshay Kumar has been shooting in Leeds, for Gold - the story of independent India’s first Olympic gold win by the country’s men’s hockey team. But Akki clearly seems to have cricket on his mind.

The 49-year-old actor has requested the director of his film, Reema Kagti, to finish today’s (July 23) schedule early, so he can cheer for our desi girls in the final match between India and England.

“I’m crazy about cricket and just can’t wait to watch the match. I’ll catch a train from Leeds after my shoot and catch as much as I can on my mobile phone during the journey, and I’ll watch the last two hours [of the match] live from the stands. If I’m allowed, I would even want to go onto the field and meet them [the Indian players],” says Akshay.

Led by skipper Mithali Raj, the Indian team has reached the finals after beating five-time-winner Australia in the semi finals.

“The women’s cricket team has made the entire country proud and it will be my pleasure if I can encourage them and cheer for them to boost their morale in the stadium,” says Akshay, whose next film, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, is ready for release on August 11.
