“I can talk English, I can walk English. I can laugh English because English is a funny language”. We’re sure the kids of 90s and the generation prior to them remember this classic Amitabh Bachchan’s dialogue from Prakash Mehra’s 1982 action-comedy ‘Namak Halaal’. People are even heard speaking this dialogue every now and then, even today. Indeed, the magic of some films never fade.

But why are we talking about this more than 3-decade old film suddenly? Well, the movie will be celebrating its 35 years of release this month. According to recent reports, VKAAO – the 'theatre on demand' service launched by PVR Cinemas - and Shemaroo Entertainment Ltd have collaborated to re-release the cult classic across India on May 21.

Kamal Gianchandani, the CEO of PVR Pictures Ltd, was quoted as saying, “The concept of screening iconic films in theatres is popular in the West; we hope to popularise it in India”. Excited? So are we. On a related note, the movie also starred Shashi Kapoor, Smita Patil, Parveen Babi and Waheeda Rehman. A few of the songs fixed in everyone’s mind even today are from this movie. Composed by Bappi Lahiri, ‘Aaj Rapat Jaayen To’, ‘Pag Ghungroo Baandh Meera Nachi Thi’, ‘Raat Baaqi Baat Baaqi’, ‘Thodi Si Jo Pee Li Hai’ and ‘Jawani Jan-E-Man’ can make anyone dance to their tunes.

Touching upon the same, Lahiri was quoted as saying, “Its soundtrack was one of my best creations in my 47-year film career. Pag Ghungroo was the first 12-minute film song and one of the first fusion tracks”. The blockbuster film was also remade in Tamil as ‘Velaikaran’.
