    The Mozart of Madras, A.R. Rahman has been named among the winners of prestigious Grand Fukuoka Prize 2016. It will be awarded for the enormous contribution to Asian culture through his impeccable music. Rahman will be addressing the noble audience in a public lecture on ‘From the Heart: The World of AR Rahman’s Music’.

    The 49-year-old Oscar laureate will be honoured along with Philippines’ historian Ameth R. Ocampo (Academic Prize) and Yasmeen Lari from Pakistan (Arts and Culture Prize) by the secretariat of Fukuoka prize committee. This prominent annual award is been set up by Fukuoka City, Japan, in 1990 with an chief purpose is to honour the outstanding work of individuals, groups and organizations ‘working to preserve and promote the unique and diverse culture of Asia’. Rahman predominantly works in South Indian movies, but the melody of his master-class is immortal in Bollywood as well.

    Rahman started his career as music composer with Roja, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Mani Ratnam. He has won Oscar for Jai Ho! in Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire, which earned him world recognition. The other high notes of his career can be felt in Bombay, Dil Se, Taal, Lagaan, Rang De Basanti, Delhi 6, Rockstar, Highway and Tamasha.
