Actress Kangana Ranaut is leaving no stone unturned to make her upcoming movie Manikarnika – Queen of Jhansi a success. The actress who is playing the titular role of Rani Laxmibai is learning sword fighting and horse riding for her character in the film. It was earlier reported that TV actress Ankita Lokhande will be making her debut with the film. She will be playing Jhalkari Bai, one of the most important soldiers in the Rani Laxmibai’s army.

And now we have heard that there is another addition to the cast. Actor Atul Kulkarni of Khakee fame has been roped in to play Ramchandra Pandurang Tope, popularly known as Tatya Tope. Like Jhalkari Bai, Tatya Tope was an important soldier in Rani Laxmibai’s army and helped her in regaining control over Gwalior and free from the British rule.

It is said that after Kangana, Atul’s role is most important. Well, this is not the first time that Atul will be playing a historical character in a film. He had played the role of Ram Prasad Bilmil, an Indian revolutionary, in Rang De Basanti, directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. Talking about his role in Manikarnika, Atul said, “This is something I’ve never done before. I am doing all my sword fighting stunts myself. My body-double hired to do the stunts just sits around on the sets doing nothing.”
