Audience can’t be Dictated by What Critics Write: Emraan Hashmi

Actor Emraan Hashmi’s last film Hamari Adhuri Kahani was criticised severely by film critics. The romantic drama film, which was directed by Mohit Suri and produced by Mahesh Bhatt under the banner Vishesh Films and Fox Star Studios, simply failed to register in the minds of audience despite having a huge star presence in the form of acting power horses like Emraan Hashmi, Vidya Balan and Rajkumar Rao.

However, Emraan never doubted that the right target audience would like the film. He said, “The audience cannot be dictated by what critics write. A consumer pays money to enjoy a film. He doesn’t go to watch the film with the same mindset as someone who watches it as his profession. A critic deconstructs a film and just picks up things that are wrong with it. Nothing changes if critics don’t like a film”. The 36-year-old added, “A lot of critics also got a bit harsh and personal, with our film. Critics have their biases. The audience can also see through these personal biases”.

Emraan stated that a movie might be relevant for a certain section of audience and not for the other. This does not mean that the film is not good. If a movie is liked by your friends and family, you will surely go and watch it, no matter how the reviews are.
