Will Prabhas Starrer Baahubali 2 Not Release In Tamil Nadu?

It was only a few days ago that Kannada activists ensured a smooth release for Bahubali 2 in Karnataka following Sathyaraj’s apology over allegedly inflammable comments he made nine years ago against Kannadigas during the Cauvery water dispute protest organised by Tamil actors. Now, highly reliable sources in Kollywood have informed that Baahubali 2’s release in Tamil Nadu is likely in huge trouble.

Baahubali 2’s producers had initially sold the Tamil Nadu theatrical rights to K Productions, who resold it to Sri Green Productions for Rs 47 crore. Sri Green has already paid Rs 30 crore to K Productions, but due to their recent loss in Bairavaa and Kattappava Kanom, they couldn’t settle the remaining amount,” says an insider to HT, and added that though K Productions is ready to release the film on their own by paying back Rs 30 crore to Sri Green, the latter has already sold the territory-wise business through sub-distributors in Tamil Nadu,” adds our source.

K Productions can’t release the film until Sri Green gives back the rights to them or agrees to stay out of the distribution but as of now, both the parties are not in a mood for an amicable settlement.

Trade pundits in Tamil film trade suggest that issue can be resolved only if Shobu of Arka Media Works reduces the Tamil Nadu distribution rights and holds a talk with K Productions’ Rajarajan and Saravanan of Sri Green Productions. Theatres in Tamil Nadu are yet to open advance bookings for Bahubali 2 as they haven’t received the nod from their distributors.
